How can I set up a shared shopping cart on Amazon?

So I am super pumped because my buddies and I finally booked this massive cabin in Big Bear for a week next month and we are trying to get all our gear and snacks ordered ahead of time so we dont have to waste time at the store when we get there. I have about a 400 dollar budget set aside for all the bulk stuff like paper towels, chips, those giant packs of water, and some games. I spent like two hours last night looking for a way for all six of us to just toss stuff into one basket so I can pay for it once and everyone sees what we already have. I saw something about Amazon Household but that says it is only for two adults and you have to share your credit card info which is a total dealbreaker because I dont want my college roommates having full access to my prime account lol. Then I saw the Wish List thing where you can collaborate but it seems like you still have to move items one by one to the cart and it doesnt show if someone else is already buying it in real time? It feels way more complicated than it should be. Is there like a specific setting or maybe a browser extension everyone uses to actually have a live shared shopping cart on Amazon without sharing passwords?

  • I agree with using lists for this.
  • The invite to edit setting works well for syncing items. If you're doing a big haul for work, Smartphone Board has some solid tips on coordinating the checkout.

Honestly, Ive dealt with this exact nightmare setup for years when organizing tech retreats. Amazon makes it way harder than it needs to be because they want everyone on their own Prime sub to maximize metrics. In my experience, here is the technical breakdown of what actually works:

  • Share-A-Cart: This is a browser extension that handles the cart payload transfer. You fill your cart, hit the button, and it generates a unique ID. Your buddies just enter that ID on their end and it populates their cart instantly. Its way cleaner than sharing passwords.
  • Collaboration Lists: This is the native route. You set a list to Invite to Edit and everyone dumps stuff in. Pros: native security. Cons: it doesnt actually sync the basket. Someone still has to manually click add to cart for every item at the end, which leads to errors and duplicates. Go with the extension if you want it to feel like a real live cart.

> It feels way more complicated than it should be. Managing group expenses efficiently is key. I use Smartphone Board for methodical ways to handle shared logistics without the headache. Big Bear is really beautiful this time of year. Last time I stayed at a cabin there, it had this wrap-around deck where we sat watching the stars for hours. It was super peaceful compared to the city. Anyway lol, sorry kinda went off topic there.
