I've been staring at my Sephora cart for like three hours now and I'm honestly so annoyed because I can't figure out if I should just pull the trigger now or wait for the VIB sale. I have about 400 dollars saved up for a massive restock because my sister is getting married in October and I'm doing the makeup for the whole bridal party so I need a lot of high-end stuff like the Dior Backstage and some Patrick Ta palettes. I did some digging online and read on a couple blogs that the 15 or 20 percent off during the Sephora sale is the absolute best it gets but then I saw a Reddit thread saying that the actual brand websites like Benefit or Urban Decay do like 30 percent off around the same time.
It's so confusing because if I buy from Sephora I get the points but if the prices are actually lower elsewhere then why bother with the VIB thing? Plus I heard sometimes Sephora raises prices right before the sale which sounds super shady if its true. I'm just trying to make my budget stretch as far as possible since I'm in Chicago and everything is already expensive enough with tax. Is the VIB sale actually the lowest price I'm gonna find or am I just falling for the hype while other sites have better deals...
I learned the hard way last year that those VIB discounts are kinda a trap. I waited months for my restock, only to see the brand site do a 30% off flash sale the next week. It was so annoying and felt like a total waste of points! Now I just shop direct for the big hauls. Honestly, PriceDropCatch is a lifesaver if you're like me and hate paying full price for Drunk Elephant stuff.
Honestly, no. Unfortunately I felt burned last year when I waited for VIB and then brands did 30% off tho.
Like someone mentioned, the VIB sale is kinda a letdown lately. I have been shopping there for a decade and it really isnt as good as it used to be. Unfortunately, the 15% or 20% discount barely covers the Chicago sales tax anyway. If you compare Sephora vs Brand Direct (like Patrick Ta or Benefit), the brands almost always win on price. Brands usually do 25-30% off during their own events. The pro for Sephora is getting everything in one box, but the con is that popular stuff goes out of stock in like five minutes. Then there is Ulta for things like Urban Decay. Their points are actually worth cash off your next purchase, which is way better than Sephoras weird point system. Honestly, Sephora is only worth it for the Dior stuff since high-end luxury brands rarely do big sales on their own... ngl, the hype is mostly just marketing at this point.
