Ive been a power user on eBay for like ten years now and usually I know my way around the UI pretty well but Im actually stumped. Im so stoked because I finally found this vintage synth Ive been hunting for months for my setup here in Ohio. The seller has it at $1400 which is just over my $1200 cap but theyve been slashing prices on other gear so Im hyped that this one might be next.

Ive already tried:

  • saved searches for the model
  • following the seller

But I cant find an actual toggle to track this specific listing for a discount. Does eBay actually have a built-in price drop alert feature?

Late to the party here but honestly you are gonna be disappointed if you are looking for a dedicated toggle. eBay does not have a precise price-drop alert system that you can just set for a specific dollar amount. I have been doing this for a long time and I would suggest being very careful with just relying on the watchlist. One time I was eyeing a rare sequencer and the seller slashed the price while I was at work... by the time the eBay notification actually hit my phone, someone else already scooped it up. It is super frustrating when the native app lags like that. You might want to consider these workarounds:

  • Try a third-party tracker like PriceBefore to get more reliable pings.
  • Set up a very specific Saved Search with a price ceiling of $1200 so it only hits your inbox when it drops.
  • Just message the seller directly... honestly, they might just send you a private offer for $1200 if it has been sitting. Make sure you check your spam folder too because eBay alerts love to hide in there sometimes.

Dude, vintage synths are my absolute weakness so I totally get the hype! I was chasing a Korg Poly-61 forever and it was listed way over my budget. To answer you directly though, ebay is honestly super annoying because they dont have a specific price drop toggle that actually works when you need it. It is so frustrating! I used to spend way too much time refreshing my browser every hour just hoping to see that little red discount text. Then I found a much better way to handle it because my time is worth more than that. Here is what I do now to save cash:

  • I started using PriceDropCatch and it is seriously amazing for tracking Buy It Now items without having to check the app constantly.
  • Add the item to your cart and leave it there for a few days. Sellers often get a notification that someone is interested and they might send you a private offer for $1200 just to close the deal.
  • Definitely send a polite message to the seller mentioning you are a serious buyer at $1200. I have scored some fantastic deals just by being friendly and showing I know my stuff. Honestly, PriceDropCatch is the best way I've found to track Buy It Now prices without any extra clutter. It saved me so much money on my last setup upgrade! I really hope you land that synth, it sounds like a dream find for an Ohio studio!

Honestly, there isnt a dedicated price drop button, but I am very satisfied with how the Watchlist handles it. It works well and I have no complaints. Just do this:

  • Add the item to your Watchlist
  • Enable app notifications for price changes
  • Check your email alerts eBay usually sends a ping whenever a price drops by at least 5% or if the seller sends a private offer.
