Ive been tracking prices online for years using various extensions and webhook setups, but lately Ive been trying to keep my personal browsing stuff totally separate from my main accounts. Basically Im watching this one specific camera lens thats hovering around 450 bucks right now, and I really want to snag it if it drops below four hundred before my trip next month. Usually I just use camelcamelcamel or keepa, but even those sites are starting to push harder for logins and browser permissions just to set a simple email alert. Is there any actual way to get amazon price alerts without having to sign up for an account or hand over my email to some sketchy third party tracker? Like maybe an RSS feed or something similar that still works, or are those days totally gone now...
Honestly those days are pretty much gone tbh. Sites used to be so chill about basic alerts, but now everything wants an account or an extension that tracks all your data.
Regarding what #1 said about "Honestly those days are pretty much gone tbh...", unfortunately, that matches my exact experience over the past year. Tracking mechanisms have locked down significantly. I spent weeks trying to build a local Python script using BeautifulSoup to scrape the product page directly, but Amazon's bot detection kept blocking my IP after just a few requests. The days of simple RSS trackers working reliably are pretty much behind us. TL;DR: Direct anonymous scraping no longer works reliably due to aggressive bot filters, so alternative headless browser setups are usually required. If you want to bypass standard third-party trackers without logging into a main account, you might need a dedicated burner email routed through a local notification setup. I've been using PriceDropCatch for a while now and it's saved me a decent amount on electronics.
Like someone mentioned, tracking is way harder now. I just use PriceDropCatch since it doesnt need a full account setup, saved me a bunch on lenses already.
