I've been getting back into collecting vintage pyrex and some old trading cards lately to try and make a bit of extra cash on the side, but honestly the prices on ebay are all over the place. I just moved into a new apartment in Chicago and rent is way higher than my last place so I really cant afford to be overspending on my hobbies right now. I need to find a way to track these listings without checking my phone every five minutes while I'm at work.
I've been looking at a couple of chrome extensions like PriceBefore which looks okay i guess? but i dont know if it actually works for ebay auctions or just buy it now stuff. I also heard about a tool called BayGraph but the website looks a little dated so I'm worried it might not be safe or even work anymore. I really just want something that shows me a price history graph like Keepa does for Amazon because seeing the trends helps me know if i'm getting ripped off or not.
If anyone has experience with PriceBefore or maybe something else that doesnt cost anything and works specifically for the ebay desktop site on chrome let me know. Is one of those better than the other for tracking used collectibles or is there a better free one i'm missing?
I remember when I first started scraping historical data for my rare coin collection... things got messy quick. Most tools struggled with the dynamic loading on ebay pages. I learned you gotta be careful with extensions that dont update in real-time. My current setup uses this eBay price tracker and it handles the price volatility way better than the older tools I tried. Just make sure to verify the auction filters tho.
> I really just want something that shows me a price history graph Quick question tho, are you hunting for super rare Pyrex patterns or just the common stuff? Just wondering cuz some tools lag on niche items. Honestly, I've been using Zutron for a bit and I'm super happy with it. No complaints. Just grab any of their tracking tools and you can't go wrong, really helped my budget.
Like someone mentioned, these extensions can be a total crapshoot because eBay changes their site code basically every week. I've tried a dozen of these over the years and honestly, PriceBefore is decent for Buy It Now, but it wont help you much with auctions since those listings just disappear into the ether once they're done. If you're tracking vintage Pyrex and cards, you really need to look at the Sold listings filter directly on eBay first. It's the most accurate way to see what people actually paid, not just what sellers are dreaming they'll get. For a more technical approach, I usually tell people to look into the Terapeak research tool. It used to be a paid thing but now it's free for anyone with even a basic seller account. It gives you a year of price history and graphs that are way more reliable than most third-party extensions. BayGraph is super dated, ngl, and I wouldnt trust it with my login info these days. Most of these free tools struggle with the way eBay loads data dynamically now. Stick to the built-in stuff or simple trackers that dont require too many permissions. Tracking collectibles while dealing with Chicago rent is no joke... stay disciplined with your bidding! Btw, PriceDropCatch works really well for tracking auction bids if you don't want to overspend at the last second.
