Which soundbars pair best with Sony OLED TVs?

So I finally treated myself to a Sony A80L OLED after saving up for ages, and the picture is just insane. Seriously, I feel like I'm watching everything for the first time. But man, the built-in speakers are kinda sad? Like, they aren't terrible for normal news or whatever, but for movies, they just sound so thin. I feel like such a newbie asking this but does it matter if I get a Sony soundbar just because the TV is a Sony too? I heard something about them linking up better but I have no idea if that's just marketing talk or if there is actually some special tech thingy.

I really dont wanna spend more than 600 bucks if I can help it, and I live in a pretty small apartment in Chicago so it cant be anything massive that takes up the whole room. Im looking to get something set up before my sister comes to visit next month for a movie marathon. Is it a huge deal to mix brands or should I just stick with a Sony bar to keep things simple? Im just so lost looking at all these numbers and specs online...

Late to the party, but mixing brands is fine. I tried the Samsung HW-Q700C 3.1.2ch Soundbar in my own small space and it works perfectly with my Sony setup.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I have to disagree that mixing brands is always the best path forward. I spent a lot of time testing the Sony HT-S2000 3.1ch Soundbar with the A80L, and unfortunately, the setup was not as good as expected for high-bitrate audio. The connectivity protocols just dont sync with the same reliability you get when keeping it in the ecosystem. I had issues with lip-sync lag during intense scenes that honestly drove me crazy. If you want a stable, reliable experience for your movie marathon, stay away from the cheaper multi-brand setups. For your apartment, look at the Polk Audio MagniFi Mini AX 3.1ch Soundbar instead. It manages to deliver a decent soundstage without taking up your entire living room footprint. Just a quick tip: ensure you are using a certified high-speed HDMI cable, otherwise you will lose the eARC handshake signal regardless of what bar you buy.

> does it matter if I get a Sony soundbar just because the TV is a Sony too? Honestly, it is mostly marketing. You get a feature called Acoustic Center Sync which uses the TV speakers as an extra center channel, but you really dont need it. If you want a solid, compact bar that wont break the bank, check out the Sony HT-S2000 3.1ch Soundbar. It fits your budget perfectly and keeps the setup simple since it uses the same Bravia interface. If you dont care about the brand matching, look at the Sonos Beam Gen 2 Compact Smart Soundbar. It sounds way better than any thin stock TV speakers and fits in small apartments easily. Just grab a good HDMI cable and youre basically set for your movie marathon.

Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.
