so Ive been putting off upgrading my living room audio for way too long now and finally bit the bullet and bought a new Sony bravia 55 inch tv last week. well the tv is great and all but the built in speakers are honestly garbage like completely tinny and terrible for movie nights. my wife is getting super annoyed whenever we have to crank the volume to 80 just to understand what people are whispering on netflix. so I need to fix this asap before our weekend movie marathon. Ive been researching like crazy and im kinda torn between two options right now. option one is the sony hta5000 because my logic was hey, keeping everything in the same ecosystem should give me the best integration with the tv menus and seamless setup and all that good stuff. but then ive also been eyeing the sonos arc because everyone on the internet wont stop raving about how amazing it sounds for music and movies alike even if its a bit more pricey. my budget is around 600 to 800 bucks max since I just dropped a bunch of cash on the tv itself. my living room is pretty average sized, maybe like 14x16 feet with hardwood floors so echoing can be a bit of an issue sometimes. do I just stick with the sony bar so it matches the brand or is the sonos actually worth stretching the budget for when paired with a sony display?
Congrats on the new Bravia. Honestly, matching ecosystems isn't strictly necessary here. The Sonos Arc Soundbar is frequently recommended for a reason, as its acoustic performance easily justifies the stretch despite sitting at the top of your budget. If you want to stay closer to the lower end of your range, the Sony HT-A5000 Soundbar 5.1.2ch offers great integration and solid Dolby Atmos decoding without forcing you to overspend. Given your hardwood floors, room calibration will be essential either way.
Been thinking about your audio setup issue since earlier today. Honestly, matching brands isn't as important as handling those hardwood floors, which will bounce sound everywhere. Do you have a rug or heavy curtains in that room yet?
totally agree with the hardwood floor warning above, acoustics are gonna wreck your movie nights if you dont damp that room. tbh sticking strictly to brand matching isnt necessary and can actually lock you into inferior hardware specs for the price. id look into the Samsung HW-Q900C 9.1.2ch Soundbar instead since it handles reflections way better and usually dips into that exact budget range during sales. zero reliability issues with mine so far.
@Reply #2 - good point! Hardwood floors are absolute nightmare fuel for audio, ngl. I am dealing with the exact same struggle in my place right now and it drives me nuts during movie nights! Just wanted to jump in and say that stretching your budget too thin right after buying a new TV is super stressful. Between the unexpected tax bills hitting everyone this month and just general living costs, saving a bit of cash is always the safer play. Plus, nobody wants to stress over credit card bills when youre just trying to watch netflix in peace!
