Does anyone have a solid recommendation for a soundbar that plays nice with the Bravia Sync/CEC features on a Sony TV? I have been setting up home theater gear for years and usually swear by dedicated AVRs with discrete speakers, but my wife is finally putting her foot down about the messy cables and the center speaker cluttering up our small living room in Seattle. I have a 65 inch A80L OLED and I am honestly just tired of messing with the HDMI handshake issues I get when using my old receiver.

I need something that just works when I turn the TV on, because dealing with multiple remotes or soundbars that refuse to wake up when I hit the power button on the Sony remote drives me crazy. I have a budget of about 800 bucks, maybe pushing to 1000 if it is really worth it. The main use case is just movies and late night gaming, so I dont need audiophile grade stuff, just something that has a decent soundstage and wont give me grief with the eARC connection.

I was looking at the Sony HT-A5000 since it is branded the same, but I have seen some weird forum threads about its sub performance being kinda lackluster. Is it actually worth sticking to the Sony ecosystem for that seamless integration, or are there other brands like Sonos or Samsung that actually play fair with the Sony OS without needing a tech degree to sync them up? I really dont want to spend my whole weekend troubleshooting CEC settings again, so if you have a setup that just turns on and stays connected every single time, let me know what you are running...

Honestly, just skip the headache and go for the Sony HT-A5000 5.1.2 Channel Dolby Atmos Soundbar. It works perfectly with the Bravia Sync, which is honestly a life saver! I used to mess with cables too, but this thing is amazing for the price. Just keep an eye out for sales because you can often snag it under 800 bucks. It just works, seriously. Best decision for my living room!

Quick reply while I have a sec. Look, I get the frustration with HDMI-CEC; I spent months troubleshooting an old receiver setup before realizing the handshake issues were just baked into the firmware. If you want to avoid those headaches with the A80L, you might want to consider the Samsung HW-Q990C 11.1.4 Channel Soundbar System. Be careful though, because while it has incredible performance, getting it to play perfectly with Sony's proprietary menus can take a bit of patience during the initial handshake. I had one for a few months and the soundstage is honestly massive, way better than anything else in that price bracket if you find it on sale. Alternatively, check out the Sonos Arc Premium Smart Soundbar, which is surprisingly stable if you hardwire it to your network. I would suggest looking at the used market or refurbished deals for these, because you can often snag one for way under 800 bucks. Just make sure to disable any power-saving features in the TV settings, as those often cause the wake-up commands to fail regardless of the brand you pick. I learned the hard way that sometimes the TV firmware is the real culprit, not the soundbar itself. Whatever you go with, just stick to a high-speed HDMI 2.1 cable to rule out bandwidth limitations, especially if you are gaming at high refresh rates.

Like someone mentioned, stick to the ecosystem if you value your sanity. Honestly though, skip the A5000 and look at the Sony HT-A7000 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos Soundbar. It handles the HDMI handshake way better than the lower models. I used to run a <a href=" https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt= Sennheiser+Ambeo+Soundbar+Mini+250W&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar Mini 250W, but it was constantly dropping connections with my Bravia. The Sony integration is just smoother for daily use, no tech degree required.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I went the non-Sony route for my own setup and honestly, it just stays synced up. No more finicky reboots for me.

  • Pure simplicity
