Ive been using my old MDR-7506s for like ten years now and they finally kicked the bucket right in the middle of a mastering session for a client project I have due this Friday. Total nightmare. I tried switching to some consumer cans I had but the low end is so hyped its impossible to get a flat translation and my last car test sounded like mud. I need to upgrade to something legit for studio mixing and my budget is capped at 400 bucks since I wasnt expecting this. Everyone keeps talking about the MDR-MV1 vs the 7506 but I need something that wont lie to me during EQ. Which Sony model is actually best for pro mixing?

Man, losing your primary pair mid-project is a total heartbreaker! If you have that 400 dollar budget, you definitely need to jump on the Sony MDR-MV1 Open-back Reference Monitor Headphones. They are absolutely fantastic for clinical mixing work! The spatial accuracy is lightyears beyond the old 7506 and they wont lie to you about the low end. Youre gonna crush that deadline with these!

@Reply #1 - good point! Unfortunately open backs like those often struggle with sub-frequency accuracy... I've been pretty disappointed by how they translate in the 20-60Hz range lately. Quick tip: always check your mix in mono to catch phase issues that headphones hide. One thing tho, what kind of interface are you using to drive these? You might actually want the Sony MDR-M1 Studio Monitor Headphones if you need a proper closed-back seal.
