Will the upcoming Sony FE 24-70mm f/2 lens a GM lens or a new series of high-end lens ?

With all the recent rumors and leaks about Sony working on a professional-grade 24-70mm f/2 zoom lens, I'm really curious about where it will fit in their lineup.

Will this be added to the prestigious GM series, or could Sony be launching a new line of premium lenses above the GM?

Rumors point to this being an exceptionally well-built and optically impressive lens, but at a potentially hefty price point. It could make sense for Sony to introduce a new tier for their absolute best-of-the-best lenses.

What are your thoughts? GM lens or something new? I'm really excited about this lens either way, as the 24-70mm focal range is my most used zoom.

I think it's almost guaranteed to be a GM lens. Sony has been steadily building out their GM lineup with pro-grade f/2.8 zooms like the 16-35mm, 24-70mm, and 70-200mm. An f/2 24-70mm seems like the obvious next step to complement those existing lenses. While Sony could theoretically introduce a new premium line above GM, I can't see them doing that for a 24-70mm f/2 zoom specifically. Those fast aperture zoom lenses are typical "GM territory."

I wish it will be in a new series, so we can get more these kinds of lenses 😆 😆
