I'm looking for options that offer great image quality without breaking the bank. I've heard good things about Sigma and Tamron, but I'm curious about specific models that photographers recommend. Are there any standout primes or zooms that provide excellent performance for portrait, landscape, or general photography? Any insights on build quality and autofocus performance would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your recommendations!
Looked at some bench results again and unfortunately, many third-party options dont live up to the technical hype when you look at actual resolution data. I have had issues with sample variation and decentering in several units lately, which is pretty disappointing given how much people praise these brands.
I totally agree with the 85mm recommendation mentioned earlier... that lens is probably the best value portrait prime on the market right now. If you're looking to save even more cash while still getting professional results, I've been really happy with some of the smaller primes and versatile zooms lately. Honestly, you dont always need the expensive G Master glass to get the job done. A few others that have served me well:
The top third-party lenses for Sony full-frame cameras offer excellent value and performance. For standard zoom, the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III G2 RXD stands out for its portability and affordability, while the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art delivers superior image quality with fast autofocus.
In the wide-angle category, the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art excels in landscape and architecture photography, offering exceptional sharpness. The Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD provides a lighter alternative.
For telephoto needs, the Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD is ideal for portraits and events, while the Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS serves well for wildlife and sports photography.
Notable specialty options include the versatile Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD, which combines wide zoom range with fast aperture for various shooting scenarios.
