I'm upgrading my gear for wedding season and need recommendations for Sony lenses. I shoot with an A7IV and need something versatile for both ceremony and reception work. My budget is around $2000.

Looking for opinions on the 24-70 f/2.8 GM versus prime options like the 85mm f/1.4. Low-light performance and autofocus speed are priorities. Would also appreciate thoughts on third-party alternatives like Sigma's offerings.

What's your go-to Sony lens for wedding photography?

I saw this earlier but just now responding. When I first started shooting weddings, I was a total spec nerd, constantly building my own DIY lens testing rigs to check for decentering and measuring the actual T-stop values vs what was on the box. It was a lot. My journey really taught me that while the math matters, the communication between the lens and the sensor is everything during a chaotic reception. Tbh, if you want the best performance for your A7IV, just go with Sony. You cant go wrong with their high-end glass. I spent way too much time trying to make other stuff work before realizing the native integration is just smoother for tracking. If you're looking to save a bit, just get any of the newer Art series from Sigma. Theyve basically closed the gap on AF speed and the resolution is clinical. Just pick a focal length and go with those brands.

For wedding photography with your Sony A7IV, the Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II offers versatility for both ceremonies and receptions, providing a constant f/2.8 aperture and fast autofocus. Alternatively, the Sony 85mm f/1.4 GM excels in low-light conditions and delivers exceptional bokeh, making it ideal for portraits. Third-party options like the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art are praised for their sharpness and affordability, though some users note occasional autofocus inconsistencies. Balancing versatility and low-light performance, the 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II is a solid choice within your budget.
