I'm looking for some advice on the best Sony lens to use for filming interviews. I recently got a Sony a7 iv and want to up my game for shooting interview footage.
The Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 is an excellent choice for interviews. Great bokeh, sharp, and the focal length is perfect for a natural perspective while maintaining comfortable distance from your subject. Much more affordable than the GM version too.
^ This. Also, I totally agree with M_89s about the 85mm. I remember my first big corporate gig, I was so nervous about gear failing that I almost blew my whole budget on a GM lens I couldnt really afford. Tbh, I ended up getting the Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 instead and its been my absolute workhorse ever since. It just works every single time, no complaints. I prefer sticking to a few reliable primes because they have fewer moving parts to break during a long day of shooting. Staying satisfied with a simpler setup has saved me thousands over the years.
For shooting interviews with a Sony camera, I would recommend one of the following lenses:
I use the new released FE 20-70mm f/4 G lens on my a7C II, a compact and lightweight lens. Works well.
