What is the absolute best portable tripod for a Sony ZV-1 right now that wont buckle under the weight? Ive been shooting vlogs for like three years using the ZV-1 and its been great, but my current cheap plastic gorilla-pod thing finally snapped at the joint while I was filming in downtown Chicago last weekend and I almost had a heart attack watching my camera tumble toward the concrete. I need something way more reliable for travel because Im heading to Japan in about a month and I really dont wanna deal with this again.

Im looking to spend maybe under 100 bucks, but I need something that actually folds down small enough to fit in my sling bag. Since I use the ZV-1 for a mix of run-and-gun street shots and static hotel room setups, it needs to be stable but also super quick to deploy. Ive looked at the Manfrotto Pixi Evo but Im worried it might be too bulky? Honestly I just need something that doesnt feel like a toy. Does anyone have a setup they swear by for these tiny Sony cameras?

For a ZV-1, the Manfrotto Pixi Evo Mini Tripod is way sturdier but the Ulanzi MT-08 Extendable Tripod is honestly better for vlogging since it gives you extra reach. The Ulanzi feels more solid than the cheap stuff and fits in any sling. Just get the Ulanzi and you'll be set for Japan.

Coming back to this, you should check out the JOBY TelePod PRO Kit Compact Tripod. I used one for a month in Europe and it held up way better than the generic stuff. It has a ball head that actually locks tight so your camera doesnt flop around while youre walking.

  • It acts like a legit selfie stick too
  • Legs are stable on uneven surfaces
  • Fits easily into most sling bags

I agree that Joby has some solid stuff, but honestly, for a ZV-1 in Japan, you really want the Sirui 3T-35K Tabletop Tripod. It is built like a tank. In my experience, the metal construction beats out those plastic joints every time. It folds flat and the ball head is rock solid for street shots.
