I just picked up a Sony FX30 and I'm really excited to build out a solid video rig, but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the cage options out there. I definitely need something that is fully compatible with the original Sony XLR top handle, as that's a huge part of my audio workflow. I've been eyeing the SmallRig and Tilta kits, but I’m curious about the ergonomics and how easily they allow access to the battery door and side buttons. I plan on adding a side handle and an external monitor soon, so durability is key. Does anyone have a specific brand they swear by for the FX30 that offers the best balance of mounting points and weight?

Seconding the recommendation above! SmallRig is solid, but if ur worried about ergonomics, I'd highkey suggest checking out the Kondor Blue Sony FX3/FX30 Cage. It's fully compatible with the XLR handle and doesn't block the battery door. - 8Sinn Sony FX3 / FX30 Cage has the best button clearance imo.
- Kondor Blue's built-in NATO rails make monitor mounting way easier. Both are great, but the Kondor is my top pick for durability. GL!

Story time: I actually went through this last year looking for value. I landed on the Nitze Sony FX3/FX30 Camera Cage T-S03A which costs around $60. It fits the XLR handle perfectly without extra parts. Accessing the battery door is easy, tho some buttons are a bit tight. Its been a really reliable setup for the price and I'm super happy with it. Honestly, it just works well without breaking the bank. Cheers!

Oh man, I totally get the struggle! When I first got my FX30, I went through three different setups before finding "the one." For your situation, I would suggest the SmallRig Cage for Sony FX30 / FX3 paired with the SmallRig XLR Handle Extension Rig for Sony FX30 / FX3. This combo is AMAZING because it solves the exact problem ur worried about—it gives u way more clearance for ur hand under that XLR unit while keeping the mounting points like NATO rails super accessible. Honestly, the battery door access is literally perfect and it doesnt block any side buttons. I've used the Tilta Camera Cage for Sony FX3/FX30 V2 too, which is fantastic, but the SmallRig just feels more intuitive for adding monitors. Basically, dont skip that extension plate; it makes the ergonomics 10x better! TL;DR: Grab the SmallRig cage and the specific XLR extension for the best balance of weight and handle clearance.
