Recommended Memory Cards for Sony FX30?

What are the best memory card recommendations for the Sony FX30? I'm looking for cards that can reliably handle 4K recording at the FX30's highest bitrates. What V rating and capacity should I prioritize for professional video work with this camera, and are there any specific brands known for compatibility and reliability?

Late to the party here, but I wanted to jump in with a technical question before giving a final recommendation. Are you planning to shoot mainly in XAVC S-I (All-Intra) at 4K 120p? That specific codec hits bitrates up to 600Mbps, which really pushes the thermal and buffer limits of UHS-II SD cards during long takes. If you are doing heavy professional work, honestly, skip the SD cards for your primary slots and look at CFexpress Type A. The Sony CEA-G160T 160GB CFexpress Type A is the industry standard for the FX30, usually around $350, and it handles the heat dissipation way better than SD during long takes. I basically only use SD cards as proxies or backups now. If that is too pricey, I have had great luck with the Kingston Canvas React Plus 128GB V90 SDXC. It is usually about $100 and technically outperforms many more expensive V90 cards in my own speed tests. Just make sure you are looking at sustained write speeds, not just the burst numbers on the box.

For my FX30, I LOVE the Angelbird AV Pro Mk II V90 cards! Rock solid at 4K 120fps. I bought two 128GB cards for $179 each back in '22. Zero dropped frames! Have you considered these?

For sustained high bitrate 4K, consider Angelbird AV Pro Mk2 V90 cards; they're thermally stable. Verify true sustained write speed exceeds camera spec (around 280MB/s). Are you using an external recorder as an alternative?

Alright, FX30 cards… Don't get sucked into the hype. For reliable 4K without breaking the bank, you might want to consider Lexar Professional Silver series. They're V60 rated, which *technically* isn't the V90 some recommend, but honestly, unless you're pushing RAW all day, every day, it's overkill.

I'd suggest at least 128GB – gives you decent headroom. Be careful with no-name brands; data loss isn't worth saving $20. I picked up a couple of 128GB Lexars for around $80 each last year and haven't had a single issue. Make sure to format them *in camera* before each shoot. And seriously, are you *sure* you need the absolute highest bitrate *all* the time? Dialing it back a notch saves space and stress on the card. What kind of projects are you shooting?
