Hey everyone! I've recently got my hands on the Sony FX30 and I'm in love with its capabilities. However, I'm on the hunt for the best lenses to complement this beast for various shooting scenarios—be it landscapes, portraits, or street photography. Would love to hear your recommendations on lenses that you've found to work wonders with the FX30. Also, any tips on getting the most out of these lenses would be greatly appreciated!

Best All-Around Zoom Lens

  • Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD: This lens is versatile and offers a constant aperture, making it great for both photography and videography.

Prime Lenses

  • Sigma 30mm f/1.4: A budget-friendly option that delivers excellent image quality, perfect for portraits and low-light situations.
  • Sony E 15mm f/1.4: Ideal for wide-angle shots, especially landscapes and street photography.
  • Sigma 56mm f/1.4: Great for close-ups and portraits, providing beautiful bokeh.

Wide-Angle Options

  • Tamron 11-20mm f/2.8: Excellent for wide-angle photography, especially landscapes and architecture.
  • Sony E PZ 10-20mm f/4 G: A lightweight option that’s perfect for vlogging and travel.

Video-Specific Lenses

  • Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS: This lens is particularly good for video due to its power zoom feature, allowing for smooth transitions while maintaining exposure.

Budget-Friendly Alternatives

If you're looking for more affordable options, consider:

  • Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8: Compact and versatile for both video and photography.
  • Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8: Another great all-around lens that offers excellent performance without breaking the bank.

Vintage Lenses

Don’t overlook vintage lenses! Adapting older lenses can provide unique character to your shots. For example, the Helios 44-2 58mm f/2 can create a distinctive swirly bokeh effect, which is great for creative projects.

For versatile shooting, consider the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN for its compact design and sharpness, ideal for landscapes and street photography. The Sony E 35mm f/1.8 OSS is fantastic for portraits, offering great bokeh and low-light performance. For ultra-wide landscapes, the Sony E 10-18mm f/4 OSS is a winner. To maximize lens performance, use focus peaking for sharpness and apply the rule of thirds for balanced compositions. Experiment with aperture settings to control depth of field and create dynamic shots. Happy shooting!

Depends on what are you shooting, usually Sigma and Tamron lenses are cheap and great image quality.

My top recommendations:

  1. Sony 16-35mm f/4 - Great for wide shots and real estate
  2. Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 - Versatile zoom range and weather sealed
  3. Sony 35mm f/1.8 - Perfect prime for run-and-gun shooting
Really depends on what you're shooting though. What's your main use case?

The Sony 16-55mm f/2.8 and Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 are popular zoom choices for the FX30. For a wider perspective, consider Sigma lenses. If you\'re on a budget, explore vintage prime lenses for a unique character. Experiment with different apertures and focal lengths to maximize your FX30\'s potential!
