As a beginner in the world of photography, I'm looking for some guidance on the best lenses to pair with my new camera a6100.

I'm interested in a variety of photography genres, including landscapes, portraits, and street photography. I'd love to hear your recommendations for versatile lenses that can help me capture stunning images across these different styles.

Here are my suggestions for the best lenses, broken down by budget:

Best budget/value lenses:

  • Sigma primes (16mm f/1.4, 30mm f/1.4, 56mm f/1.4) - These are some of the best values in E-mount, with wide apertures and excellent optics. Great for low light, portraits, etc.
  • Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD - Probably the best standard zoom under $1000.

Best high-end lenses:

  • Sony E 16-55mm f/2.8 G - Sony's pro-grade standard zoom. Super sharp with fast autofocus. Pricey but worth it if you need the best.
  • Sony E 70-200mm f/4 G OSS - An excellent telephoto zoom for sports and wildlife. The constant  aperture gathers a lot of light.

Of course, the best lens depends on your needs and budget. In general, I'd suggest starting with a good standard zoom and expanding from there. Fast primes are great for portraits and artistic shots. Telephotos help you get closer to the action. Wide angles are great for landscapes and architecture.

For the Sony a6100, some of the best lenses include the Sony E 16-55mm f/2.8 G for versatile, high-quality zoom; the Sony E 35mm f/1.8 OSS for sharp portraits and low-light shots; and the Sony E 10-18mm f/4 OSS for wide-angle landscapes and architecture. The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN is also an excellent choice for stunning bokeh and sharpness in a compact form. These lenses enhance the a6100’s capabilities, providing flexibility and superb image quality across various photography styles.
