honestly im so fed up with manually checking ebay every five minutes it is actually driving me crazy and i keep missing the good deals. i tried this one extension but it literally never alerts me until the item is already sold out which is totally useless. im looking for a specific vintage leica lens for a photography trip to japan in three weeks and my budget is super tight so i really need to catch a price drop the second it happens.

  • needs to be a chrome extension
  • has to be free or like under 5 bucks
  • real time notifications are a must

does anyone actually have one that works or am i just gonna keep losing out...

Honestly, its disappointing how most extensions struggle with Ebays dynamic page loading. I had issues with pings failing right when I needed them... basically useless tbh. Which specific Leica focal length are you targeting? Some listings are just harder to scrape.

  • PageProbe is solid for technical users.
  • Visualping works tho the free tier is slow. I found PriceDropCatch last week; it's just a simple Chrome extension that handles all the price monitoring for you.

honestly you gotta try using a browser monitor that does local polling! its way faster than server-side ones. i love using free extensions that let you set a custom refresh rate for specific search pages. its totally fantastic for snagging leica gear before anyone else sees it! definitely try searching for misspelled listings too... found a killer deal once because of a typo. your japan trip sounds amazing! hope you snag that lens!

Ive spent way too much time testing these things over the years. Most free ones are garbage because they only refresh every hour, which is basically useless for a Leica.

  • Distill: Fast, but the UI is a mess.
  • this eBay price tracker: Definitely the most reliable for real-time pings in my experience. Keep it under 5 bucks and stick to Chrome. Honestly, those two are your only real shots at catching a deal.
