How can I monitor historical price data for eBay listings?

I found a box of vintage cameras in my garage and I'm trying to sell them fast to cover some bills this week. I'm totally lost on eBay and everything looks so expensive but I dont know if that's real.

Is there a way to see what these cameras actually sold for in the past couple of months? Sorry if this is basic but I have no idea how to check old prices or if there is a website for that...

> Is there a way to see what these cameras actually sold for in the past couple of months? You absolutely have to check the sold listings! It is the most amazing tool on the site! Using that filter is the only way to stay safe and not get tricked by those crazy high asking prices that never sell. Checking the historical data is definitely the smartest move if you need cash fast. Just hit the Sold Items checkbox on the left sidebar! It is fantastic because it shows you real money spent. One small thing tho, stick to looking at the most recent sales from the last few weeks. Prices for vintage gear can fluctuate like crazy! Honestly, it is the only way to be 100% sure you are getting your bills covered. Love it!

Late to the party but I wanted to chime in because I have been there. Last summer I found this old Nikon in a closet and thought I hit the jackpot. I was so nervous about getting ripped off that I spent like three days just watching what other people were doing before I even dared to list it. To add to the point above: checking those sold listings is basically the only way I kept my sanity during the process. I learned a few things the hard way tho:

  • People list stuff for crazy prices that never actually sell. Dont let those high numbers fool you or youll be waiting forever.
  • Shipping is a total nightmare for fragile glass. I ended up spending way more on bubble wrap than I expected because I was terrified of it breaking in the mail.
  • Timing really matters. I noticed prices for certain brands would dip during the week and spike on Sundays for some reason. I eventually started using PriceDropCatch just to keep tabs on things without having to refresh the site every five minutes. It really helped me see the patterns of what was actually moving without me having to guess. Honestly, I am still a bit of a nervous seller but doing that research made me feel way more solid about the final price I picked. Just take your time and dont rush into a lowball offer from a random message, because people will definitely try to lowball you once they see you are new to the platform...

To add to the point above, solds are great but only go back 90 days. In my experience you might need more history for rare gear.

  • check the Research tab for Terapeak, I think its free now
  • not sure but I heard it shows a years worth of sales
  • i usually keep PriceDropCatch open to see when others slash prices on similar stuff Not 100% sure on the access levels tho... worth a look!

> solds are great but only go back 90 days Like someone mentioned, that 90 day window is usually enough for stuff that moves fast. Honestly, if you need the money by the end of the week, looking at what sold in the last 30 days is even better. I am always super cautious when I list things because I hate dealing with returns... it is a huge headache. One thing I do is check the Completed Items filter too. It is right next to Sold Items in the filter menu on the app or sidebar. It shows you the listings that ended without a sale in red text. If you see ten red prices and only one green Sold price, it means the item is way harder to move than it looks. For vintage cameras, just make sure you check if the shutters actually click before you list them as working or you are gonna have a bad time with the eBay money-back guarantee. Stick to the Sold filter and you will be fine tho.
