So I finally pulled the trigger on a 65 inch Sony A80L last weekend and it is absolutely gorgeous but right now it is just sitting on my media console and it feels way too low and honestly kinda precarious with my cat running around like a maniac. I really want to get it up on the wall before next Sunday because I am having people over for the game. I did some digging and everyone keeps pointing towards the Sanus Advanced Tilt or that official Sony SU-WL850 mount. The Sony one looks cool because it lets the TV sit super flush but man, it is like 250 bucks and I really dont want to spend that much after already dropping two grand on the TV itself.
Then I see people on Reddit saying just buy a 40 dollar Mounting Dream bracket and call it a day but I am terrified of the TV falling off or it being a huge pain to get to the cables since the ports on these Sonys are tucked way back there. Is there a middle ground that keeps it close to the wall but isnt gonna break the bank? I am looking to stay under 150 if possible and it needs to be something I can grab at Best Buy or on Amazon pretty quick because I am in a bit of a rush to get this finished. Does the official Sony mount actually provide better cable access or is it just a brand tax thing...
Saw this earlier but just getting back to ya. Im always paranoid about gear falling, especially with pets. Are you mounting at eye level or way up high? If its eye level, ive been very happy with the Peerless-AV ST650 SmartMount Universal Tilt Wall Mount 39-75 inch. Its commercial grade and built like a tank. The safety screws lock it in place so no cat zoomies will budge it. Peace of mind is huge.
Before deciding, are you mounting into standard 16 inch studs or is this a concrete wall? That really dictates which fasteners you should use. If you want a technical middle ground, the Echogear Tilting TV Wall Mount EGRT1 for 32-75 inch TVs is a decent option.
Unfortunately, I tried that official Sony mount and it was not as good as expected. The profile is way too slim for bulky cables, which is a nightmare... I had issues with it pulling on the HDMI ports. Honestly, just grab the Sanus VLT7-B2 Advanced Tilt 4D Wall Mount 42-90 inch instead. It supports 150 lbs and that 6.8 inch extension makes cable access way easier. its usually $130 at Best Buy, way better value tho.
Unfortunately, that official Sony mount was not as good as expected when I tried it... total nightmare for cable management. The profile is so slim that my thicker HDMI cables were getting pinched against the wall, which is the last thing you want with a new OLED. I had issues with it from day one because the clearance is just so bad. Sony makes killer screens but their mounting hardware feels like a total brand tax. Check these out instead if you want to stay under 150 and actually be able to reach your ports:

To add to the point above: honestly dont risk it with cheap mounts... I went with the Kanto PDX650 Full Motion TV Wall Mount 37-75 inch because reaching those hidden ports is easy.
