Im honestly so over swapping lenses every five minutes while im hiking, its driving me crazy. I have the a7 IV and Ive been trying to make do with primes but I keep missing shots because im fumbling in my bag. I have a trip to the Alps in literally ten days and I need one solid all-around zoom that isnt a total brick. My logic was maybe the 24-105 f4 for the range but then I worry about low light... or do I just get the Sigma 24-70? Ive got about 1200 bucks max and im panicking because I dont want to carry a massive bag. what is the one lens you guys actually keep on your camera?

Honestly, the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 for Sony E is a total beast! Its super light for hiking and saves you tons of cash compared to Sony glass. Love mine!

Building on the earlier suggestion, the Tamron G2 is the lightweight king, but honestly that Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art for Sony E is a total powerhouse!

  • Sigma 24-70mm: Stellar sharpness and 24mm is huge for landscapes. It fits your budget perfectly!
  • Tamron 28-200mm f2.8-5.6 Di III RXD for Sony E: Amazing for hiking and saves you tons of cash for the trip. Grab the Sigma and dont look back, youll get amazing shots!

Building on the earlier suggestion, the Tamron is the value king, but the Sony FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS is technically better if you need reach. It hits your budget perfectly. While f4 is slower, the optical stabilization helps keep things sharp when you're tired from hiking. For landscapes, that extra focal range is usually more important than a wider aperture anyway. Its a solid, methodical choice for a one-lens setup.
