Must-have controllers and headsets for PS4 and PS4 Pro?

Ive been gaming on my PS4 Pro since launch and honestly never thought I would need to upgrade my gear until my DualShock 4 started drifting like crazy during intense matches of Apex. It is driving me absolutely insane. I have replaced the sticks before but this time it feels like the internal sensors are just totally shot and honestly I am tired of buying these cheap replacements that die in three months. Also my current headset is barely holding on with duct tape and one of the ear cups is cutting in and out which makes competitive play basically impossible.

Im located in the UK and really need to get this sorted before the weekend because me and my buddies have a tournament scheduled for Saturday. I have about 150 quid saved up for a new controller and a decent headset combo. I know the PS4 is getting on in years but I just cant justify a PS5 upgrade right now with how expensive everything is getting. Do you guys have any rock solid recommendations for controllers that actually last and headsets that dont cost a fortune but still offer decent directional audio for footsteps? Im kinda lost looking at all the random brands on Amazon...

Been thinking about your setup. I honestly wouldnt suggest going for the Nacon if you are dealing with stick drift issues long-term because those wired models have been known to develop their own quirks after a few months of heavy play. If you want something that lasts, you might want to consider the Razer Raiju Ultimate PS4 Controller Wired/Wireless instead. Its a bit pricier but the build quality is significantly more robust for competitive play. For audio, stay away from those budget headsets that use cheap plastic hinges. I would suggest looking at these instead:

  • The directional audio is top-tier for footsteps and the build is much tougher than the Stingers.
  • Sony DualShock 4 Wireless Controller
  • Sometimes the official one is still your safest bet if you keep it clean, but be careful with third-party knockoffs on Amazon, they are usually junk.

> my current headset is barely holding on with duct tape I feel your pain. Honestly, I had issues with cheaper stuff breaking way too fast. Since you need reliability, look at the Sony DualShock 4 Wireless Controller original version—it is still the most reliable if you find a legit one. For sound, grab the Logitech G432 Wired Gaming Headset 7.1 Surround Sound. It is super sturdy and the directional audio is great for footsteps.

Honestly, grab a Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 3 Wired and pair it with the HyperX Cloud Stinger Core Wired Gaming Headset. Solid combo that wont break your budget, mate.

To add to the point above: honestly id be super careful with some of those third party pro pads since ive had issues with them breaking right outside the warranty window and then you're just out of pocket. since you only got 150 quid and need it by saturday id skip the sketchy amazon brands entirely. i grabbed the Sony PlayStation Gold Wireless Headset a while back and its surprisingly solid for directional audio without costing a fortune, plus the build isnt cheap plastic that snaps if you look at it wrong. pair that with a standard official Sony DualShock 4 Wireless Controller from a local high street shop like argos so you know its legit and can actually return it if something goes wrong. hate to say it but third party stuff isnt always as good as expected for longevity. hope your tournament goes well tho!
