Ive been shooting with my RX100 VII for a few years now for travel vlogs and general street photography, but lately ive been getting more into filming interviews and the internal mic is just not cutting it anymore. Its super frustrating because the video quality is obviously crisp but the audio is always either too tinny or picking up way too much wind noise even when im just in the park here in Seattle. I tried rigging up my old shotgun mic but the RX100 form factor is just so tiny that it feels super top heavy and keeps getting in the way of the flip-up screen.
Im looking for something way more compact, maybe something that fits in a jacket pocket since I have a trip to Japan coming up in like three weeks and I really dont want to haul around a huge sound setup. My budget is probably around 150 bucks max. Should I just grab one of those tiny Rode VideoMicro setups or is there something else out there that wont make the camera feel like its about to tip over? Do you guys have any experience with the smaller wireless lavs working well with the sony adapter or am I asking for trouble trying to mount extra stuff on such a small body...

Check out the DJI Mic 2! It is super tiny and clips anywhere. Perfect for Japan and fits way better than a shotgun setup. Absolutely love the clean audio!
Honestly, the RX100 VII audio port placement is a nightmare. Unfortunately, mounting anything bulky makes the flip screen basically useless. I had issues with larger shotguns, so I switched to the Rode VideoMicro Compact On-Camera Microphone and it has been way better for travel.
