Honestly, I am so close to just selling my ZV-1 and giving up. I bought this thing specifically for vlogging while traveling around Chicago, but my hands are constantly cramping up because the body is so tiny and slick. Its like trying to hold a bar of soap. I feel like Im constantly on the verge of dropping it, especially when Im walking and talking, which is literally the whole point of this camera. Im getting so anxious about it slipping out of my grip that I cant even focus on the framing anymore.

So I was thinking about getting a cage or a grip extension, but everything I see online looks so bulky. My logic was that if I add a massive rig, it defeats the purpose of having a compact vlogging setup, you know? I have a budget of around 60 bucks, maybe 80 if it really solves the problem, and I need to fix this before my next trip in two weeks. I looked at the Sony VCT-SGR1 shooting grip but it looks kinda flimsy? I dont know, maybe Im overthinking it. I also checked out some generic wooden grips on Amazon but some of the reviews say they block the battery door which would be a total nightmare since I switch batteries constantly.

  • What are you guys actually using to hold onto this thing?
  • Is there something that adds bulk without making it feel like a brick?
  • Should I just bite the bullet and get a full cage or will that just make it heavier?

Im just tired of having to white-knuckle this camera every time I go outside. Its making me hate using it and I really want to love it. Has anyone found a grip that doesnt get in the way of the tripod mount or the memory card slot? Im really stuck here...

TL;DR: Grab the SmallRig 2938 L-Bracket for Sony ZV-1! It adds just enough grip without blocking doors, totally amazing compared to the flimsy Sony VCT-SGR1 Shooting Grip. You will love it!

Jumping in here because I totally feel your pain. I used to feel exactly the same way about that tiny ZV-1 body when I started out. I honestly found that slapping on a simple rubberized adhesive grip strip made a massive difference without adding any real weight or bulk. It cost me like ten bucks and totally changed how the camera felt in my palm. Sometimes you dont need a big rig, just a bit more friction. Are you mostly shooting handheld or do you find yourself wanting to mount lights or mics? Also, have you looked into basic wrist straps? Getting a sturdy one really helped my anxiety about dropping the camera while walking around. It makes a huge difference knowing its secured to your wrist even if your grip slips a bit.
