So I've been shooting on my a6400 for like three years now and honestly thought I had my kit dialed in until I tried to do some sunset long exposures last weekend. I finally upgraded to the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 which is amazing but my old travel tripod is basically useless now. It just drifts or vibrates the second there is any wind and its driving me crazy. I'm planning a trip to the Pacific Northwest in about three weeks and I really need to find a setup that actually works for hiking.

My current bag is this bulky generic thing that makes my back sweat like crazy and the tripod straps are so loose the legs just flop around and hit me while I walk. I need something sleek that fits the a6400 perfectly without a ton of wasted space but can still hold a sturdy set of legs. Maybe something around 400 bucks for the whole combo? I was looking at Peak Design but man the prices are steep for what it is.

  • must be light enough for 5+ mile hikes
  • tripod needs to handle some wind
  • bag cant look like a giant turtle shell

Does anyone have a specific bag and tripod combo that actually fits together well for this camera? I'm tired of buying stuff that looks good online but fails in the field...

The PNW is gonna be epic! I've used these for my a6400 and they're fantastic:

Saw this earlier... I think you'll be satisfied with a 20L pack with side access. It works well for hiking because you don't have to put the bag down in the mud. IIRC, hanging your bag from a center hook improves vibration damping significantly on those lighter setups.

  • Slim 15-20L bag
  • Tripod with center column hook
  • Regular leg lock maintenance Not 100% sure about specific combos under 400 but it's definitely doable.
