Should I use Amazon or Babylist for my gift registry?

I'm about 22 weeks along now—due in October!—and I’m totally spiraling over the registry. My logic was to just go with Amazon since everyone has Prime and it’s so easy for my family back in Ohio, but then I read that Babylist lets you add stuff from literally anywhere like Etsy for the nursery decor. I saw some people saying Babylist is a nightmare for older relatives though because they have to manually mark things as bought? My mother in law is not tech savvy at all so that scares me. Is the Amazon discount actually better anyway? I just want the easiest transition for everyone but I’m overthinking every single detail right now...

@Reply #1 - good point! honestly, my experience with the technical side of these platforms was pretty stressful. You might want to consider how the interface actually works for guests before committing. Make sure to look into how the redirect system operates because it can be quite jarring for someone who isnt used to multiple tabs opening during checkout.

  • Order Tracking: Since Babylist is basically just a middleman, you dont get the same streamlined tracking you get with a single-source site.
  • Completion Discount: The Amazon discount is 15% and way more straightforward to apply to your own leftover items.
  • Inventory: Third-party links from Etsy or smaller shops can break or go out of stock without the registry updating in real time. I would suggest looking at the specific terms of the universal feature. It sounds great, but be careful with those manual updates. If someone forgets to click that button, youre gonna end up with three of the same diaper bag... which is kinda exactly what happened to me.

TL;DR: Go Amazon. Unfortunately Babylist caused huge checkout issues for my grandma. I switched to the Amazon wishlist creator later because their 15 percent completion discount is just way easier to use tho.
