I am finally setting up my dream gaming nook in my new place next month and I have like $2000 saved up for the whole build! Im honestly so hyped but my browser is a total disaster right now. I read that Pinterest is good for this stuff but it feels way too cluttered for actually comparing specs and then I tried just using browser bookmarks but I keep losing track of which monitor was which because I have like 20 open from Newegg and Best Buy.
People mention those universal wishlist apps sometimes but I’m kinda worried they dont update prices fast enough... how do you guys actually save items across different websites?
Came here to say the same thing lol. Great minds think alike I guess.
I literally just saw your post and honestly, you might want to be careful with those all-in-one apps because they fail to grab the right data half the time. If you have $2k on the line, you really dont want to miss a deal because an app didnt sync or gave you the wrong price. I would suggest going old school with a basic Google Sheet. It sounds boring but it lets you see everything side-by-side without the clutter.
Honestly man, I feel your pain. When I was building my last high-end rig, I tried every tool under the sun and they all kind of let me down. I started with those universal wishlist extensions, but unfortunately, they just arent as good as expected for comparing actual data. Most of them just pull a thumbnail and the price, completely ignoring the specs that actually matter like refresh rates or PSU tiers. I had issues with one popular app that missed a huge price drop on a GPU because its scraper was broken for three days... totally missed the window. I ended up building this massive, over-engineered spreadsheet to track everything because I needed to see the specs side-by-side. It was a nightmare to maintain tho, especially with prices jumping around every hour. It is honestly disappointing that we are still stuck using basic bookmarks or messy lists for such technical builds. Before I dive into how I manage it now, are you mostly focusing on the internal PC components right now, or are you trying to track the desk and chair too? Also, does that $2000 budget need to cover the monitors, or is that just for the tower itself? Knowing the scope helps because tracking furniture is way different than tracking m.2 drive specs. I've been using Share Product for my birthday lists lately and it’s way easier than the native Amazon one.
Saving this whole thread. So much good info here you guys are awesome.
Can vouch for this
Jumping in because I went through this exact same headache last year when I was building my home studio! @Reply #5 - good point! Honestly, taking the DIY route for organization is the absolute best way to keep your head straight when you are dropping two grand on a setup. I ended up creating a private Discord server just for my build projects and it was a total game changer! I set up dedicated channels for each component category like GPUs, monitors, and even cable management stuff. This method is amazing because you can just paste links and screenshots of the spec sheets right there. Then, once I narrowed it down to two or three options, I moved the data into a spreadsheet to handle the actual math. Using a spreadsheet is fantastic for calculating the total cost including taxes and shipping fees which those browser extensions always seem to miss anyway. It basically keeps the visual clutter separate from the technical specs. Love how easy it makes it to see everything side by side without 50 tabs open tho...
