Which wall mount works best for most Sony TV models?

What wall mount is actually going to work for a Sony Bravia without me losing my mind? Im trying to get my 65-inch X90L mounted in my apartment here in Chicago before my friends come over for the game this Friday but I am stuck. I did some digging and saw that everyone points toward Sanus because they have that official partnership or whatever but then I read a ton of reviews saying those mounts block the side-facing ports on specific Sony models because the VESA holes are positioned so low on the back of the TV compared to LG or Samsung. Its so frustrating because universal doesnt seem to mean anything when the brackets are six inches too long and hang out the bottom of the frame. I looked at the EchoGear ones too since they're cheaper but people say the spacers you need for the Sony bump-out on the back are missing half the time. My budget is like a hundred bucks maybe a bit more if it actually fits right but I just need something that doesnt block my HDMI 2.1 ports since I use those for my PS5. Is there a specific model that handles that weird lower mounting point better or am I just gonna have to hack something together...

To add to the point above: hitting wood or metal studs? Chicago buildings vary.

Quick reply while I have a sec! You absolutely gotta check out Kanto! I had the same exact headache with my Bravia and honestly the Kanto PDX650 Full Motion Wall Mount for 37 to 75 inch TVs is a total lifesaver. It is super sturdy and the way the arms are designed means they dont cover those side ports at all! Plus it comes with a mountain of hardware so you definitely wont be missing those annoying spacers. A few reasons it works so well:

  • Open wall plate design lets you get to your outlets and HDMI 2.1 ports easily.
  • The vertical brackets are slim so they dont peek out the bottom of the frame.
  • Amazing range of motion if you need to angle it for the game. It is usually right around 120 bucks but you can find deals. Seriously, save yourself the stress and just grab one of these. It makes the low VESA point a non-issue!

Setting up my first Bravia was a total nightmare for this exact reason. Most universal brackets are way too tall and peek out from under the bottom because of those low holes.

  • check bracket height dimensions
  • use an open wall plate I went with the Sanus VLT7 Advanced Tilt 4D Wall Mount and it cleared my ports perfectly. It handles that weird vertical offset much better than the cheap kits.

Re: "Setting up my first Bravia was a total..."

  • I totally feel that frustration! When I got my X90 series, I was so paranoid about it crashing down or the cables being crushed. Sony designs their sets with that bump at the bottom where all the guts are, and it makes the mounting holes sit so much lower than a Samsung or LG. It is wild! I ended up doing a ton of research because I wanted something super secure and reliable for my peace of mind. I found that the secret is looking for a mount with shorter vertical brackets or ones that are highly adjustable. You want something that lets you shift the TV up relative to the bars. I absolutely love my setup now because it is rock solid! Honestly, seeing it finally up there is such an amazing feeling.
  • Open backplates are a total lifesaver for accessing those HDMI 2.1 ports on the side.
  • You definitely need those spacers to clear the plastic housing at the bottom.
  • Always double-check the vertical bar length; anything over 13-14 inches might show at the bottom of a 65-inch Sony. I actually went with the Peerless-AV ST650 SmartMount Universal Tilt Wall Mount and it was fantastic! It has a really low profile but feels like it could hold a tank. Another solid choice if you want more movement is the ECHOGEAR Full Motion TV Wall Mount EGLF2 which comes with a massive hardware kit so you wont be missing those spacers. It feels so good once its up and you can finally just enjoy the game! Let me know if you need help figuring out the stud spacing too!
