Which wall mount works best for all Sony TV models?

So I just moved into this sweet loft in Chicago and I am finally upgrading my setup. I've been a die-hard Sony guy for like 15 years now and I've hung probably a dozen TVs in my time so I know the drill with stud finders and VESA patterns and all that. But honestly I'm getting so annoyed lately because it seems like Sony keeps changing their mounting bolt positions on the back of their displays?? Like one year it's centered and the next it's way down at the bottom like on my old A80J which totally messed up my cable management height.

Anyway I just grabbed a massive 85 inch X90L for the main wall and a smaller Bravia for the bedroom and I really want to find one brand or specific mount model that just works for literally any Sony without needing a million spacers or weird hacky solutions for the recessed ports. I've got about 150 bucks to spend on the main one and I need to get it drilled in by next Saturday before my housewarming party. Is there a specific Sanus or Peerless model that you guys swear by for the Sony ecosystem specifically? I'm tired of guessing if the bracket is gonna block the HDMI inputs or the power cord too...

Sony is notorious for those low VESA patterns. The Sanus VLT7-B2 Elite Advanced Tilt Wall Mount 42-90 inch is basically the industry standard for large Bravias like your 85 inch X90L.

  • Open wall plate design for power and HDMI access
  • Extension feature helps with reaching recessed ports
  • High weight capacity for 85 inch panels This mount wont block your inputs like cheaper brackets often do. Its very reliable.

I've been very satisfied with the Peerless-AV ST680 Universal Tilt Wall Mount 46-90 inch for these large Sony sets. It handles the 100lb weight of that 85 inch display without any vertical sagging. The open wall plate design works well for recessed Bravia ports since you can align your outlet perfectly. Quick question tho, are you mounting into wood studs or is this a masonry wall? That dictates which mounting hardware you will actually need.

Honestly man, those low VESA patterns on the newer Bravias are such a massive headache. I spent like three hours rehanging my 75 inch last year because I assumed the holes would be centered like my older model, but it ended up sitting way too high above the console. It is really annoying how Sony just does its own thing lately without thinking about the people who actually have to install these things. The lack of consistency is just exhausting and it makes cable management a total nightmare. When youre dealing with a massive 85 inch set like that X90L, you gotta be extremely careful about the mounts integrity and the weight distribution. I wouldnt trust just anything with that much weight hanging off the wall for years. I always worry about the stress points on the bracket over time if it isnt heavy-duty enough. Here is why I suggest something beefier:

  • You really want a mount that allows for post-installation leveling. Heavy TVs can settle slightly or pull on the studs, and if your drill bit wandered even a fraction of an inch, the whole thing is gonna look crooked.
  • For that specific size and the recessed port issue, the Chief XTM1U Micro-Adjust Tilt Wall Mount 55-100 inch is basically built like a tank. It has a massive weight capacity and better lateral shift than almost anything else on the market, which is vital for centering.
  • Make sure you use every single lag bolt provided. People get lazy and skip the middle ones, but for an 85 inch, you want all the security you can get.
  • I would also suggest checking the depth of your cables. If they arent right-angle, even a universal mount can put too much pressure on those expensive ports if the TV sits too flush.
