So I finally pulled the trigger on a 65 inch Sony OLED it was the A80K I think or maybe the A80L but honestly I dont really know the difference other than it looked amazing in the store. Now that it is sitting in the box in my living room I am staring at it and realizing I have absolutely no idea how to actually put it on the wall. Like zero idea. I am totally new to this whole home theater thing and I am honestly terrified that I am going to buy the wrong mount and this expensive glass screen is just going to slide off and shatter on the floor the second I let go.
Sorry if this is a really basic question but are all mounts the same? I went on Amazon and there are like a million options from ten dollars to two hundred dollars and I am just lost. My brother said something about VESA patterns but I dont know what that means or if Sony uses a special one because the back of the TV looks kind of weird and bumpy and thin at the top but thick at the bottom. I dont want to screw something into the wrong place and crack the panel.
Here is what I am looking for I guess:
Does Sony make their own mount that is better than the cheap ones or should I just get a Sanus or something like that? I really want to get this done by Friday so I can watch movies this weekend but I am paralyzed by all the choices and really dont want to mess this up. What do you guys use for your big OLEDs? Should I be worried about the weight since it feels kind of heavy even though it is thin... I just dont want it to fall.
Just saw this. Be careful with apartment walls tho... do you know for sure if your studs are wood or metal? I almost wrecked a wall once not checking. If they are wood, I would suggest these:
Coming back to this, are your wall studs 16 or 24 inches apart? It matters for the width. The Echogear Low Profile Tilt Mount EGLT2 is around $50 and fits that 300x300 VESA pattern.
Honestly, I had high hopes for those generic mounts you see online but unfortunately they are usually just flimsy scrap metal. I have had issues with the cheaper brands where the tilt mechanism feels loose and the whole thing just sags, which is definitely not as good as expected when you are hanging an expensive Sony OLED. Heres what you actually need to do to keep that thing safe:
