Which wall mount is recommended for 65-inch Sony TVs?

So I finally pulled the trigger on a 65 inch Sony X90L last weekend and now I am staring at this massive box in my living room in Chicago wondering how the heck I'm gonna hang it safely. I spent some time looking at the Sanus Elite mounts because everyone says they are the gold standard but then I saw some reddit threads saying the Sony TVs have this weird VESA spacing or need special spacers that come in the box? Or maybe they dont? Im super confused because some people say the Sanus screws are too long and might crack the panel if you arent careful and that honestly sounds like a nightmare. I checked out the Mounting Dream ones too since they are cheaper but I worry about the build quality for a TV this heavy.

Here is what I am looking for:

  • Budget: Trying to stay under $150 honestly, I already spent enough on the TV.
  • Function: Must have a decent tilt because the glare from my balcony door is brutal in the afternoon.
  • Wall: Standard drywall with 16 inch studs.
  • Timeline: Hoping to have it shipped and installed by Friday for a little watch party I'm hosting.

Is there a specific model that actually fits the Sony back panel perfectly without needing a hardware store run? I keep seeing the proprietary Sony mounts but they are like double the price and look kinda flimsy compared to the third party stuff...

I put my X90L on a Mounting Dream MD2268-XL Tilt Mount last month. It works perfectly and handles glare. Just use the spacers from the Sony box so you dont crack anything.

Check out the Echogear Low Profile Tilt TV Mount EGLT1-B2. Its cheap, solid, and the tilt is perfect for window glare. Easy install on 16 inch studs too.

Late to the party but I have to chime in because safety is everything when you are hanging a pricey TV! If you want something that feels totally bulletproof and gives you peace of mind, you gotta look at the Peerless-AV ST650 SmartMount Universal Tilt Wall Mount. It is absolutely fantastic and way sturdier than those budget brands you see all over the place. Honestly, it is built like a bridge and feels like it could hold twice the weight of your Sony. It handles 65 inch sets easily on 16 inch studs and the tilt is super smooth for killing that balcony glare. Just make sure you use the silver standoffs that came in the Sony box. Those ensure the screws dont go too deep into the panel. Its way under your 150 budget and basically the gold standard for reliability imo. You wont regret it!

Congrats on the X90L, its a killer TV. In my experience hanging these Sony sets over the years, people totally overthink the VESA thing. You just gotta use those silver screw-in spacers that come in the Sony box. They level everything out so the mount sits flush and you wont crack the panel with long screws. Since you mentioned that balcony glare, you really want something with a deep tilt. I swear by the Echogear EGLT2 Large Tilt TV Wall Mount for this setup. Its usually around $70, so it saves you a ton of cash compared to those overpriced proprietary mounts. It gives you about 15 degrees of tilt which should kill those reflections from your balcony door. Its built like a tank and fits 16-inch studs perfectly. I have used this one on several 65-inch installs and it handles the weight without any sagging. Youll be ready for your watch party by Friday... no problem.
