So I just picked up a 55 inch Sony Bravia A80K for my place in Chicago and I'm trying to get it mounted before my sister comes to visit next Friday. I've been staring at the back of this thing and honestly its kinda weird compared to my old Samsung. I did some digging online and saw everyone recommending the official Sony SU-WL855 mount because it's supposedly ultra slim and designed specifically for the Bravia line. But man, that thing is like 250 bucks or more depending on where you look. My logic was that I could just grab a $50-70 Sanus or EchoGear mount from Best Buy and be done with it, but then I started reading some forum posts that got me all paranoid.
Apparently, Sony likes to put their VESA mounting holes way lower on the chassis than most other brands? So I was thinking, if I buy a standard tilting mount, is my TV gonna end up sitting way higher on the wall than I planned? I've got a specific height in mind so it clears my media console but stays eye-level. Plus, I saw some people mentioning these special spacer screws that come in the Sony box. I think I found them in a little plastic baggie, but I'm not sure if they work with every third-party mount or if they're just for specific ones.
The other thing bothering me is the port access. The A80K has that recessed area for the HDMIs and I'm worried if I get a mount that sits too flush, I wont be able to get my PS5 cables in there without bending them at a 90 degree angle. I'm really trying to stay under a $100 budget for the mount itself since the TV was already way more than I intended to spend lol. Does anyone have a specific brand or model they've used with recent Sony OLEDs that doesnt block the ports or require a degree in engineering to line up? I just want something reliable that wont fall off the wall or make the TV look crooked because of the weird weight distribution...

How many cables are you running? If you want easy access, this Kanto M300 Full Motion Wall Mount is a decent option. Tip: measure the bottom VESA hole to the bezel first.

Coming back to this after looking at my own setup... I have been through the Sony struggle more times than I care to admit. Those VESA holes are honestly a nightmare if you dont plan ahead. You definitely dont need to drop 250 bucks on that official Sony mount tho, thats basically just paying for the brand name. If you want to keep it under 100 bucks and still be able to reach those ports without snapping your HDMI cables, I would suggest checking out these:
- Pipishell Full Motion TV Wall Mount PIMF1 is usually around 40 or 50 dollars and gives you enough extension to get behind there when you need to swap cables for the PS5.
- Mounting Dream MD2380 Full Motion TV Wall Mount is another solid budget pick that lets you pull the TV away from the wall to handle those recessed ports. A few big warnings for you because these OLEDs are fragile: 1. Use those silver spacers! If you dont use the ones that came in the Sony box, the bolts from the mount might go too deep and crack the internal components or the back panel. Its an expensive TV, dont risk it over a tiny piece of hardware. 2. Since the holes are so low on the chassis, the TV is gonna sit way higher than you think. Whatever height you measured for the bracket, you might want to consider dropping it down a few inches or you will be looking up at the ceiling. 3. Be careful with the weight distribution. Most of the weight is at the bottom where the electronics are, so it feels a bit lopsided when you are lifting it onto the bracket. Definitely a two-person job.

Re: "TL;DR: Grab the ECHOGEAR Tilting TV Wall Mount..." - i totally agree with that. honestly, sonys design choices are just frustrating lately. i had issues with standard slim mounts because the vesa holes are so low, which makes the tv sit way higher than youd think. not as good as expected for such a pricey oled... unfortunately, it also makes the bottom of the tv tilt out if the mount isnt super sturdy. if you want an alternative, the Sanus VLT6 Advanced Tilt 4D is solid. it gives you some extension even though its a tilting mount, which is a lifesaver for those recessed hdmi ports. i tried a cheaper generic one first and it was a total disaster trying to reach the ports for my ps5. definitely dont skip those silver spacers in the baggie tho. they provide the clearance so the bracket doesnt warp the back panel. just be careful lifting it, the weight distribution is really weird.

TL;DR: Grab the ECHOGEAR Tilting TV Wall Mount EGLT3. Unfortunately, standard mounts arent as good as expected with Sonys weird VESA holes, and I had issues with cables getting crushed on other models... use those silver spacers from the box to keep it safe! This one is super reliable and handles the weight distribution way better than cheap generic stuff.

Just saw this thread and honestly... I have been dealing with these Sony quirks for years. You really gotta be careful because Sony just does things differently compared to brands like Samsung or LG. The weight distribution is always a bit wonky. I would suggest doing a little more homework before you commit to a specific bracket so you dont ruin your drywall.
- Honestly just search for Sony A80K wall mount guide on YouTube. There is a really good video that basically walks through the whole port clearance issue and it is like the first result that pops up.
- You should definitely check the official Sony support site for the VESA diagram. It gives you the exact measurements for the offset so you can figure out where the TV will actually sit on your wall.
- I would also look at the Reddit threads for this specific model. People there are always comparing different brands and you can see photos of how the cables fit in that recessed area. Just make sure to double check those silver spacers because they are lifesavers. It is a bit of a project but you will get it figured out!
