honestly so fed up with my current setup its making me want to skip my cardio just to avoid the annoyance. i have been using my wh-1000xm4 over-ears because the noise canceling is top tier but they are absolutely disgusting for high-intensity stuff. i am training for a spartan race here in austin and the humidity is already killing me and these headphones just slide right off my head every time i do a burpee or even just lean over to pick up a dumbbell. the ear pads are starting to smell funky and the leather is peeling away which is just great for something that cost me a fortune. i feel like i am literally ruining them but i cant stand the silence of the gym.
i tried some cheap off-brand buds i found on amazon last week but the bluetooth keeps cutting out whenever i put my phone in my pocket or move more than five feet away from the rack. its literally the most frustrating thing when you are mid-set and the music just starts stuttering or one ear just decides to quit. i need something that is actually going to stay in my ears and not die the second a drop of sweat touches them. im a heavy sweater, like seriously, it looks like i jumped in a pool after twenty minutes on the stairmaster and i need gear that can actually keep up with that.
i have a budget of around 300 bucks and i want to stick with sony because i like the sound profile and the app is easy to use but i am lost with all the different model names lately. i need these before my next big training block starts on monday so i am kind of in a rush to grab something from the shop today or tomorrow.
which sony headphones or buds are actually built for this kind of abuse? are the linkbuds s any good for jumping around or am i gonna be chasing them across the gym floor? or should i just look at the wf-1000xm5 even though they look a bit bulky? what are you guys using that doesnt fall out the second you start moving...
> are the linkbuds s any good for jumping around or am i gonna be chasing them across the gym floor? Honestly you might want to consider the Sony Float Run WI-OE610 Open-Ear Wireless Headphones for those box jumps. The off-ear design is technically better for heavy sweating and they wont budge. Be careful with the Sony LinkBuds S Truly Wireless Noise Canceling Earbuds tho as they lack wingtips. If you go for the Sony WF-1000XM5 Wireless Noise Cancelling Earbuds, just make sure to swap the foam tips for silicone ones to handle that Texas humidity.
Like someone mentioned, open-ear is cool, but I would suggest Sony LinkBuds Fit Noise Canceling Earbuds.
Man, i totally feel your pain with the XM4s... i did the exact same thing last summer! I thought the ANC was worth the sweat but i ended up with peeling ear pads that smelled like a locker room within a month. Disgusting! I finally bit the bullet and grabbed the Sony WF-1000XM5 Wireless Noise Cancelling Earbuds and they are a total game changer for the gym. Seriously, the foam tips they come with are the secret sauce for high-intensity stuff because they kind of expand in your ear canal and create this seal that just doesnt move. I do crazy box jumps and heavy deadlifts in a non-AC warehouse gym and they havent fallen out once!! The sweat resistance is solid too. I am a heavy sweater too, basically a human fountain when i hit the treadmill, and these have handled it like a champ for months. Just make sure you wipe them down after! If you want to save some cash, the Sony LinkBuds S Noise Cancelling Earbuds are also fantastic and super lightweight, but for that locked-in feeling during a Spartan training session, the XM5s are the way to go. The battery life is also stellar, i usually go like 4 or 5 days without even thinking about the charging case. You're gonna love how they sound compared to those cheap Amazon buds you tried, the bass actually has some kick! It is way cheaper in the long run to buy one good pair than three cheap ones that die!
