Hey everyone! I'm finally checking a huge item off my bucket list and flying from New York to Tokyo next month. I am super excited about the trip, but I am honestly dreading the 14-hour flight. In the past, I've just used whatever cheap earbuds I had lying around, but they usually start hurting my ears after two hours and they do absolutely nothing to block out the engine drone or people talking.

I've decided it's time to invest in some high-quality Sony headphones because I've heard their noise-canceling tech is the best in the game right now. However, I'm having a hard time choosing between the different models. I have a few specific concerns:

  • I wear glasses, so I need something with soft ear cups that won't press the frames into the side of my head.
  • I need the battery to reliably last the entire trip without needing a mid-flight charge.
  • I'm worried about how much space they take up in a carry-on since the newer models don't seem to fold as small.

I've been looking at the WH-1000XM4 and the WH-1000XM5, but I can't tell if the newer version is actually worth the extra money for a long-haul traveler. Which Sony model would you recommend for staying comfortable and sane on a long international flight?

Honestly, grab the Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones. They fold much smaller than the XM5s for your carry-on, plus theyre way more comfortable for long hauls with glasses.

I totally get the struggle... did a 14-hour flight once and my glasses were killing me tbh. Are you stuck on over-ears, or would you consider earbuds if the battery life was comparable?
