Just picked up the Sony a7R V and I'm blown away by that 61MP sensor! Since the files are massive, I'm unsure if I should jump to CFexpress Type A cards or stick with V90 SDs. Besides extra batteries, what specific screen protectors or grips are you guys using to round out your kit?

Oh man, congrats on the a7R V! Seriously, that sensor is a beast. When I first grabbed mine, I lowkey freaked out about those 61MP files and thought I'd need to sell a kidney just for storage. But honestly, you dont need to go overboard on accessories to get the most out of it. For your situation, here is the budget-friendly breakdown: - **Memory:** CFexpress Type A is nice for clearing the buffer, but it's pricey. I usually stick with the ProGrade Digital SDXC UHS-II Video Speed Class 90 128GB for about $130. It's a decent option for high-res stills. If you really want speed, the Pergear CFexpress Type A 260GB is around $180—way cheaper than Sony's.
- **Screen:** Get the ULBTER a7R V Screen Protector Tempered Glass 3 Pack. It's like $10 and protects that beautiful tilt-screen perfectly.
- **Grip:** Grab the SmallRig L-Bracket for Sony Alpha 7R V. It's about $45 and gives you a much better hold than the bare body for a fraction of the cost of the vertical grip. Basically, I learned that V90 SDs are actually enough for most landscapes and portraits. Save that extra cash for a better lens! Cheers.

In my experience, storage is basically a technical bottleneck for 61MP files. Speed matters cuz the buffer fills instantly. I've had issues with the cost tho. SanDisk Extreme PRO 128GB SDXC UHS-II is budget-friendly but slower at clearing. The ProGrade Digital CFexpress Type A 160GB is way faster but unfortunately overpriced. For ergonomics, the SmallRig L-Bracket for Sony Alpha 7R V is better value than the official grip. It's not as good as expected, but works. 👍

sooo, congrats on the a7R V! that 61MP sensor is literally insane but yeah those files will eat your storage for breakfast lol. Basically, the technical bottleneck with this camera is the buffer clearing speed. Since each uncompressed RAW is over 120MB, the write speed determines how long you're stuck waiting after a burst. Here's what I recommend for a solid setup: * **Storage:** If you do any high-speed burst shooting, you reallyyy want the Lexar Professional CFexpress Type A Card Gold Series 160GB. SD cards like the Sony TOUGH V90 SDXC 128GB are great and a bit cheaper, but CFexpress is literally twice as fast for clearing the buffer. It's the difference between waiting 5 seconds or 20 seconds to review your shots.
* **Handling:** Instead of a bulky battery grip, I highkey suggest the SmallRig L-Bracket for Sony Alpha 7R V. It adds just enough height for your pinky to rest on and makes tripod work way faster. Plus, it protects the bottom of the camera from scratches.
* **Screen:** For the screen, I'd skip the cheap films and grab the Sony PCK-LG3 Screen Protector. It's actual tempered glass and doesn't mess with the touch sensitivity or that fancy new multi-axis hinge. It's easy to overspend, but honestly, just getting one fast card and a solid bracket makes a huge difference in daily use. idk if you're doing video too, but if you are, those CFexpress cards are basically mandatory for some of the high-bitrate 8K settings anyway. Enjoy the new rig! 👍
