So I finally upgraded to the a7R V and man the 61mp sensor is a total double edged sword. Ive been doing landscape work forever but my current travel legs are suddenly failing me and Im getting these tiny micro-jitters in my long exposures that I never saw on my old a7III. Its super frustrating because I have a big trip to the Dolomites in three weeks and I need something that actually locks down.
Im leaning towards Leofoto or maybe a used RRS but I need to know what actually works for this specific high res body...
To add to the point above: are you shooting in high wind often? I am satisfied with the FLM CP30-L3 II 10-Layer Carbon Fiber Tripod.
> my current travel legs are suddenly failing me I would suggest the Leofoto LS-324C Ranger Series Carbon Fiber Tripod. I've used it and you really need those 32mm tubes for that sensor... just be careful with thinner legs.
ngl im literally dealing with the exact same thing right now with my high res body and its a massive headache. i moved up to a high megapixel count recently and it totally exposed every single flaw in my kit. like, you think your technique is solid until you see those micro-jitters at 200 percent zoom. it's honestly depressing how much gear you have to replace just because the sensor is too good for its own legs... basically the issue is that with 61mp, the physical size of each pixel is way smaller. so, any tiny movement—even stuff you cant feel—shows up as a blur. on my old camera, the vibration would stay within the area of one pixel so it looked sharp. now? that same vibration streaks across multiple pixels. it makes me want to pull my hair out sometimes. i tried using the Peak Design Travel Tripod Carbon Fiber for a bit because it's so portable, but for long exposures on a windy ridge? forget it. the physics just dont work out when you need that level of precision. ive been looking at the used market too because $750 is a weird spot where you're just short of the top-tier stuff but way above the budget junk. cost-wise, it's a trap lol. you either spend $400 and regret it, or $1000 and your wallet cries. i ended up testing a Really Right Stuff TQC-14 MK2 Series 1 Tripod and yeah, the build quality is insane but man, the price of the accessories alone is a joke. just make sure you check the leg diameter... anything under 28mm on the top section is risky for that r v sensor imo.
