so I just picked up the a7 IV and I need a dedicated portrait lens for an outdoor wedding Im shooting in October. I'm really looking for that super shallow depth of field but I dont want to break the bank entirely. My budget is capped at about $1200.

I am currently looking at:

  • Sigma 85mm f1.4 DG DN Art
  • Sony 85mm f1.8
  • Samyang 85mm f1.4 II

The Sigma seems like the logical choice but I've heard it can be heavy for an all-day shoot. Is the Sony 1.8 enough for pro work or should I just go for the f1.4? I need fast autofocus because the couple is gonna be moving around a lot. Which one would you pick...

I once lugged a heavy setup for a beach wedding and my wrist was basically dead by the reception. Reliability is everything when people are moving. Honestly, the Sony FE 85mm f1.8 is the safest bet for your wallet and your sanity.

  • Fastest autofocus of the bunch
  • Super light for long days
  • Great value Its plenty sharp for pro work and saves you enough cash for a nice flash or extra cards.
