Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger on the Sony a7C II, and I’m absolutely loving how powerful this little body is. I moved over from a much larger setup because I wanted something I could actually carry all day without a massive gear bag. However, I’m struggling to find that 'perfect' compact prime that matches the camera's ethos.

I really want to keep the footprint as small as possible—ideally something that doesn't make the setup front-heavy. I’ve been looking at the Sony 40mm f/2.5 G because the build quality looks amazing, but I’ve also seen people rave about the Sigma 35mm f/2 I-Series. My main concern is balancing size with that 33MP sensor; I don't want to sacrifice too much sharpness just to save an inch of space. I'm mostly shooting street photography and daily life, so a fast and reliable autofocus is a must for me.

I’m curious to hear from those who have been using the a7C II for a while now. If you had to pick just one 'walk-around' prime that stays on the camera 90% of the time while keeping the kit truly portable, which one would you recommend?

Honestly, the Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary I-Series is a beast for sharpness, but it might feel way too front-heavy without one. I suggest checking how much you value weather sealing too, cuz the Sony FE 40mm f/2.5 G is way safer for rainy street days... basically, how strict is ur size limit?

Check out a site called CameraSize.com—it's basically a necessity for comparing how these lenses actually sit on the body without being front-heavy. Since you're worried about price and weight, i'd seriously look at the Samyang AF 35mm f/1.8 FE. I've been super happy with it because it’s much cheaper than the G lenses but still reallyyy sharp on that 33MP sensor. It weighs almost nothing (like 210g), so the balance is perfect for all-day street stuff. The AF is fast and reliable too, though maybe not *quite* as silent as Sony's native glass, but for the value? It’s a steal tbh. Plus, it leaves more cash in ur pocket for extra batteries. gl!
