honestly so done with the onboard audio on this thing. I bought the Sony ZV-1 specifically because everyone said it was the perfect vlogging camera but the audio is just a nightmare whenever I leave my house. I was out in downtown Chicago yesterday trying to get some clips for my street food channel and the wind just absolutely wrecked every single take. even with that little fuzzy windscreen thing that comes in the box it still sounds like garbage if there is even a slight breeze and i am just so tired of getting home and realizing half my audio is unusable. plus that deadcat is honestly such a design flaw because it covers the power button and half the time i cant even tell if the camera is actually on or not without peeking under the fluff which has led to me missing so many good shots of people cooking. it is beyond frustrating at this point. i have a huge shoot coming up in like three weeks and i need a real solution before then because i cant keep doing this. my budget is probably around 150 dollars maybe 200 if i push it but i really want something that stays compact. i dont want a massive shotgun mic that makes the camera tip over on my tripod i just need something reliable that actually focuses on my voice and cuts out the street noise. i looked at some of the rode stuff but there are so many versions i have no idea what actually works best with the zv1 specifically. does anyone have a setup they actually swear by for outdoor vlogging that isnt gonna break the bank or be a total headache to carry around all day? i really need something that wont block the flip out screen either because that is a total dealbreaker for me. what are you guys using that actually works...
I was honestly disappointed with the built-in audio too. It's just not as good as expected for windy streets tbh. I had issues with the Sony ECM-G1 Ultracompact Camera-Mount Microphone picking up way too much background rumble unfortunately. I eventually switched to the Rode VideoMicro Compact On-Camera Microphone and it's way more reliable. It's tiny, doesnt need batteries, and actually works.

Late to the party but I just had to chime in because I went through this exact same nightmare! I used to get so stressed about wind ruining my street shots. Honestly, for the kind of stuff you're doing with street food, you should really look into a wireless setup instead of a traditional mic on top of the camera. It changed my life!
