What wide-angle prime should I grab for my ZV-E10? Sorry if this is a dumb question but Im totally new to this. I just started vlogging around Chicago and my kit lens is way too tight for indoor shots. Im hoping to keep it under 400 bucks if possible. Anyone have ideas?

Adding my two cents here, sticking to a tight budget for vlogging is totally doable. Since you are in Chicago and dealing with tight indoor spaces, you really need something that lets in a ton of light and keeps your face in the frame. My go-to recommendation for exactly what you need is the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Sony E.

  • It is super sharp and honestly the build quality feels pro grade even though it fits your budget perfectly.
  • The f/1.4 aperture is a beast for low light, which you will definitely appreciate if you are filming at restaurants or bars downtown.
  • It gives you that nice creamy background blur, makes the footage look way more cinematic than a standard lens. I have been shooting with this lens for years and have absolutely zero complaints, it just works reliably every single time. It is a bit wider than your kit lens but honestly that extra room is a lifesaver when you are handheld vlogging. If 16mm still feels a bit too tight for you, check out the Samyang AF 12mm f/2.0 E-mount Lens for Sony E. It is wider than the Sigma so you get more of your surroundings, and it works well with the autofocus on your camera. Just keep in mind that being that wide means you gotta watch out for distortion at the edges, but for vlogging it usually looks fine. Either way, you are gonna have a much better time filming those Chicago trips.

^ This. Also, be careful with distortion. If you want something sharper, check out the Samyang 12mm f/2.0 AF. It's a solid choice, just make sure you update the firmware.

Welcome to the world of vlogging! Chicago is a sick city for content, but yeah, the kit lens is a total pain for indoor stuff because it just doesnt go wide enough. If you want something affordable that fixes your framing issues, you really need to look at the Sony E 11mm f/1.8 lens. Its technically a bit over your budget brand new, but you can find it used for around 400 bucks if you look on the usual gear swap sites. Basically, 11mm on your ZV-E10 gives you a super wide field of view, which makes it easy to keep yourself in frame while showing off the background. The aperture being f/1.8 is a lifesaver too, especially for indoor stuff where lighting isnt always great. It lets in way more light than your kit lens, so your footage wont be as grainy. It is also really lightweight, which is ideal if you are walking around holding a tripod or a gimbal all day. Another solid option is the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary. Its a classic for a reason and you can definitely find that for under 400. It is not quite as wide as the 11mm, but the image quality is crisp and the background blur is honestly beautiful if you want that professional look. Just keep in mind 16mm is a bit tighter, so it might still feel snug in really small rooms, but for general vlogging, its a massive upgrade.
