Ive been shooting with my a6700 for a while now for my travel channel, mostly using the kit lens and a sigma 30mm, but Im getting really tired of my arm being cut off every time I try to vlog walking down the street in Tokyo. Need something wider ASAP before my next trip next month. Budget is around 500 bucks max. Was looking at the Sony 11mm f1.8 and the Sigma 10-18mm. Anyone tried both of these on the ZV-E10 or a6700 bodies? Is the extra zoom on the sigma worth losing that stop of light...
unfortunately Sony E 11mm f1.8 had issues with focus hunting for me. id grab Sony E 10-20mm f4 PZ instead for safer vlogging shots.
Agree with keeping that extra light for evening walks. If you want to stay well under budget, check out the Tamron 11-20mm f2.8 Di III-A RXD. It zoom-ranges well and handles low light nicely.
> Is the extra zoom on the sigma worth losing that stop of light... In my experience shooting travel stuff for years, losing that stop of light on the wide end hurts big time when youre moving from bright streets into dim izakayas or walking at dusk. You end up having to crank ISO way past comfort levels on the APS-C sensor. I used to run the Sigma 10-18mm f2.8 DC DN Contemporary for a couple months. The zoom range is super nice for framing up quick shots without shuffling your feet, but the constant f2.8 isnt actually that fast once you factor in crop factors and low-light street scenes in places like Shinjuku. Plus, internal zooming is cool, but autofocus tracking occasionally stuttered on my a6700 during fast pans. Honestly? Skip both and look hard at the Tamron 11-20mm f2.8 Di III-A RXD. You get that constant f2.8 aperture combined with a tiny bit more reach up to 20mm, which makes talking head shots look way more natural and less distorted around the edges. The weather sealing has also saved my gear during unexpected downpours in Kyoto. If you really want prime sharpness and maximum light collection, look at the Samyang 12mm f2.0 AF. Its insanely cheap compared to your budget, leaves you cash for ND filters, and punches way above its weight class for sharpness. Distortion is easily fixed in post anyway.
