I just got this new Sony Bravia tv last week since my old one died but the menus are honestly driving me crazy because they are so laggy. I was thinking maybe I should get one of those little plug in sticks like a Roku or an Amazon thing? My logic was that it might be faster than the tv software itself since it keeps freezing up when I try to open Netflix or Hulu. I only have about 60 bucks left in my budget after the tv purchase so I cant go too crazy but I dont even know if they work together or if the Sony remote will still work. Sorry if this is a dumb question but do I need a specific brand to make it run smooth?
Unfortunately, most budget hardware isnt as good as expected for long-term reliability. I had issues with cheap sticks overheating during 4K playback in my living room setup.
What specific Bravia model is it? Knowing the model helps determine if a software update might fix it first. If youre set on hardware, the Google Chromecast with Google TV 4K is a solid choice under 60 bucks. It stays in the same ecosystem as Sonys software, which makes it feel more native. Just make sure to enable Bravia Sync in your settings.
I'm really satisfied with the results after switching to an external player. Honestly, just go with any Roku. It works well. HDMI-CEC lets your Sony remote control the stick perfectly, so no extra remotes are needed. No complaints here. You could look at any Amazon Fire stick too. External hardware handles processing way better than the built-in SoC. Snappy and easy.
