I recently picked up a Sony Bravia XR, and I'm really looking to dive into some cloud gaming through GeForce Now and some native Android titles. I'm trying to figure out which controllers work most reliably with the Google TV interface without a massive headache. I already have a PS5 DualSense, but I’ve heard mixed things about button mapping consistency across different apps. Does anyone here use an Xbox Series X controller or maybe a third-party option like 8BitDo? I’m specifically worried about input lag over Bluetooth and whether certain models are better for a lag-free experience. What’s your top recommendation for a controller that just works perfectly with a Sony Smart TV?

In my experience, the core issue with Sony TVs is that the Android OS is built around the X-Input standard, which is basically Microsoft's controller protocol. This matters because while other controllers will connect, the system "speaks" Xbox natively. That's why your DualSense acts funky... the button mapping and haptics just aren't 1:1 in most apps because the TV is trying to translate those inputs on the fly. For your situation, I'd highkey recommend the Xbox Wireless Controller - Carbon Black. It's about $60 and since it's the industry standard, every app on Google TV—especially GeForce Now—recognizes it instantly without any setup headache. If you're looking for a better value proposition with extra features, I'm also reallyyy happy with the 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth Controller with Charging Dock. It's awesome because it includes a charging station and back buttons for a similar price. I've been using the Xbox one for months and honestly, I'm totally satisfied with the Bluetooth latency. It feels almost wired tbh. Plus, you won't have to deal with the battery anxiety you get with the PS5 controller lol. anyway, hope that helps!!

+1 to what was said earlier! Lag is gonna ruin games. Try: 1. SteelSeries+Stratus+Duo&linkCode=osi&tag=5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">SteelSeries Stratus Duo (2.4GHz safety) vs 2. GameSir G4 Pro. Lesson: 2.4GHz polling is WAY more reliable!

> "the core issue with Sony TVs is that the Android OS is built around the X-Input standard..." Exactly. I went through this last year and honestly, Bluetooth lag on these TVs is SO bad. Because Sony's stack struggles with BT polling, I found that a 2.4GHz connection is the only way to go. I've been using the Logitech G F710 Wireless Gamepad for ages. It's an older model but it’s super cheap and the USB dongle makes it literally lag-free. Worth it for the stability alone.

I'm still kind of a beginner with this whole setup, so I was super nervous about breaking something or wasting money on stuff that wouldnt work. I actually went through a few weeks of total frustration because I kept trying to make things work perfectly over Bluetooth, and it just wasn't happening for me. Eventually, I learned that focusing on the physical connection was way more reliable than hunting for the perfect controller...

  • I would suggest being careful with how many things you have plugged into the USB ports. I found out the hard way that having too many drives or adapters can sometimes make the TV's interface act a bit weird.
  • Make sure to check your TV's settings for any power-saving modes on the ports. I had a lot of trouble with my connection dropping out until I realized the TV was trying to save power by putting the port to sleep.
  • You might want to consider a simple USB extension cable if you use a wireless dongle. I moved my receiver just a few inches away from the back of the TV and it made the connection so much more stable. It was a lot less stressful than constantly reconnecting everything mid-game.
