Im literally headed to Best Buy in like an hour because I want to get some cloud gaming going on my Bravia tonight but Im stuck between the PS5 DualSense and the standard Xbox controller. My logic was that since the TV is a Sony the DualSense would be a no-brainer for compatibility and mapping but then I read some threads saying Android TV handles the Xbox input way better without random disconnects... money is kinda tight so I can only grab one right now and they are both around 70 bucks. Has anyone tried both on a recent Sony model? Is the trackpad on the PS5 one actually useful for navigating menus or is it just gonna be a headache to setup? I need to decide fast before the store closes lol

Like someone mentioned, be careful with the Sony ecosystem logic. I would suggest the Xbox route for stability, but check these:

Building on the earlier suggestion, I have actually had a super positive experience with a totally different brand that hasn't been mentioned yet. I spent months feeling frustrated with my Bravia because my old controllers would randomly drop the Bluetooth connection right in the middle of a session, which is basically the worst thing that can happen when you are cloud gaming. I ended up picking up the 8BitDo Pro 2 Bluetooth Gamepad Gray Edition and honestly, it has been a total game changer for my sanity. I know everyone is pushing the Xbox route, and I get why, but I have found that the 8BitDo hardware is way more reliable for Android TV because it has a physical toggle switch on the back to change between input modes. If the TV starts acting up in X-input mode, you just flip it to D-input and it usually fixes the mapping issues instantly. It is that kind of safety net that makes me feel better about the purchase, especially when money is tight and you dont want to deal with the hassle of returns. Quick tip: if you notice any lag on your Sony TV with a wireless pad, go into your settings and make sure you disable any RS-232C control options. It sounds totally unrelated, but it cleared up my interference issues immediately. I am really satisfied with this setup now... no complaints at all after a year of heavy use.

Honestly, save yourself the headache and go with the Xbox option. I really wanted the Sony ecosystem to feel seamless, but unfortunately, it is just not as good as expected. You would think a Sony TV would love a Sony controller, right? Nope. Android TV is basically built on Google code that favors Microsofts input standards, so the Microsoft Xbox Wireless Controller Carbon Black just works right out of the box. I tried using the Sony DualSense Wireless Controller Midnight Black and that trackpad is basically a paperweight... it doesnt even work for menu navigation like youd think it would. Heres the deal based on my experience:

  • Native support means buttons actually match what you see on screen
  • Way fewer random Bluetooth drops than the Sony counterpart
  • Battery life is way more solid for long sessions Its a total bummer because the DualSense feels way more premium in the hand, but for a Bravia setup, its just gonna frustrate you. Grab the Xbox one and get gaming.

Just catching up on this thread, hope you didnt get stuck at the store too long! I actually have a slightly different take on the DualSense vs Xbox thing for the Bravia. When I first got my TV, I was strapped for cash too and ended up trying a few different setups because I hated how the Bluetooth kept dropping out on my older gamepads.

  • Logitech F710 Wireless Gamepad: I honestly suggest this if money is tight. It uses a USB dongle instead of Bluetooth, which fixed all my lag issues on the Sony. Its usually half the price of the others.
  • Sony DualSense Wireless Controller Nova Pink: I know people say the trackpad is useless, but I found it actually works as a mouse cursor for some of the non-native Android apps I sideloaded. It is a bit of a pain to map for some cloud games tho. If you want the most bang for your buck, the Logitech is a tank. The Xbox one is fine, but the dongle connection on the F710 is way more reliable for me.
