so i finally saved up some cash to upgrade my gym setup and i am stuck between two different sony models and honestly cant decide. i am looking at the wh-1000xm5 over-ears versus the wf-1000xm5 earbuds. i do a lot of high intensity stuff like burpees and box jumps so i am super worried about the big ones just flying off my head or getting the pads all sweaty and ruined after a month. but then the earbuds sometimes fall out when i am really grinding out a set of heavy squats so i dont know what to do here.

i am moving to chicago next week and want to grab these before i join a new powerlifting gym there since i heard their speakers are literal trash. my budget is basically $350 max and i need something that can actually block out the terrible gym pop music.

  • budget is around $300 to $350
  • needs to stay put during jumping
  • sweat resistance is a big deal
  • noise canceling has to be amazing

the over-ears look cooler but are they gonna be a nightmare for heat? i see people wearing them in gym vids all the time but i dont know if thats just for the aesthetic or if they actually work for real training...

unfortunately the flagship sony over-ears are a total letdown for powerlifting. i tried them and the pads got gross fast, plus they slide around during box jumps. honestly i had issues with the xm5 weight balance too. for a real grind, try these:

tbh for high intensity stuff, just go with the earbuds. I have the Sony WF-1000XM5 Wireless Noise Canceling Earbuds and im super satisfied with how they handle movement.

  • over-ears will slip right off your head during burpees
  • the foam tips on these stay in way better than old versions
  • sweat wont ruin them like the pads on the big ones They totally block out that trash gym music too. Good luck with the move!

Can confirm this works. Did the same thing on mine and its been solid ever since.
