I’ve been a loyal Sony fan for years, but I’m struggling to figure out which of their current lineup can actually handle my heavy lifting and HIIT sessions. I really love the top-tier noise canceling on the WH-1000XM5s, but I’m worried they’ll just slide off my head or get ruined by sweat during a long session. I need something with a really secure fit that won't budge when I'm on the move. Does Sony have a specific model that's actually IPX-rated for moisture but still delivers that punchy bass? Between the flagship over-ears and the LinkBuds series, which Sony headphones would you recommend for someone who hits the gym hard every day?

Oh man, I totally feel u on the XM5s. Seriously, dont take the Sony WH-1000XM5 Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones to the gym lol. Over-ears are basically sweat sponges and theyll slide right off during HIIT because they arent clamped for high-impact movement. In my experience, you need something with an IPX4 rating that actually sits flush in the ear so it doesnt budge. I suggest the Sony LinkBuds S Noise Canceling Earbuds. I've tried many over the years, and these are lowkey the best for heavy sessions because theyre so light you forget theyre even there. Plus, the bass is still super punchy. If u want the absolute flagship specs, the Sony WF-1000XM5 Truly Wireless Earbuds are amazing too, but the LinkBuds S are the real winners for fit and stability. Basically, stay away from the over-ears for lifting... your earpads will thank you. 👍

In my experience, the most practical solution for ur situation is the Sony WF-C700N Truly Wireless Noise Cancelling Earbuds. They’ve got an excellent value proposition and meet the IPX4 industry standard for moisture resistance. * Secure fit for HIIT
* Highly cost-effective Honestly, they deliver that punchy bass without the high-cost risk of damaging flagship models. What’s ur actual budget?? gl!

Quick question—is blocking out loud gym music ur main priority?? Ngl, I had issues with the Sony LinkBuds S Truly Wireless Noise Canceling Earbuds because the IPX4 rating unfortunately didn't handle my sweat well. But vs the Sony Float Run Off-Ear Wireless Headphones WI-OE610, the Float Runs are way more stable for HIIT. I think the off-ear design helps with heat, even if the bass is weaker. Which matters more for ur lifting??

Like someone mentioned, you really gotta be cautious about how brands handle moisture because ratings can be pretty misleading. I would suggest being careful since what works for a light jog might totally fail during a heavy lifting session.

  • sweat creep in the drivers
  • silicone bits losing grip
  • warranty hassles Honestly, this reminds me of my old roommate who was obsessed with comparing every flagship fitness line. He bought some high-end buds from a competitor right when he started training for a marathon. One afternoon he was out in a humid session and the right earbud just started making this high-pitched squeal. He spent like three weeks back and forth with their support team trying to prove he didnt submerge them in a pool. Then he tried a different pair and the charging case would never stay closed in his gym bag. It turned into this huge ordeal that basically ruined his training rhythm for the whole season... it was a total nightmare to watch.
