Ive used 7506s for tracking forever but I'm moving into a tiny London flat and cant blast my monitors at 2 AM. I need a Sony pair with a flatter response for actual mixing.

  • budget under 400 quid
  • need them by Tuesday
  • must be neutral

Is the MV1 better for translation than closed back stuff? Need to order tonight...

The Sony MDR-MV1 has way better phase coherency for mixing. What interface are you running?

Honestly, I agree with your logic here. Those industry standards are legendary for tracking but they definitely color the sound too much for a final mix. In my experience, moving to an open-back design is the only way to get accurate translation when you are stuck in a small flat. It gives you a much more honest representation of the stereo field.
