finally getting my home studio space set up in my flat in London and im so hyped to start professional mixing projects. ive been looking at sony because they are classic but im stuck. i saw the mdr-7506 is everywhere but people say they are super bright and might tire my ears out during 8 hour sessions. then there is the new mdr-mv1 which looks sick for spatial stuff and is open back but i dont know if they are better than the newer mdr-m1 for actual flat response. i have about 400 pounds to spend by next week and need to decide. which sony model is actually the king for high end studio mixing right now?

Just saw this thread and wanted to chime in since I went through the same headache a few years back. Honestly, after trying a bunch of gear, I realized that chasing the newest spatial thing isnt always the move for core mixing. I used to use the standard 7506s but they are basically sonic sandpaper after a while lol. If you want the real high-end studio secret that is actually flat, you should check out the Sony MDR-CD900ST Studio Monitor Headphones. They are the actual standard in Japanese pro studios.

  • They are way smoother than the 7506 so no ear fatigue.
  • Mid-range detail is actually insane for vocal mixing.
  • Super lightweight for those 8-hour marathons. Since you have 400 quid, you could grab those and still have plenty left for Sonarworks SoundID Reference for Headphones to make them perfectly flat for your flat. In my experience, software correction plus a solid pair of cans beats buying the most expensive model every time... you just gotta trust your ears.

if youre doing long sessions, skip the 7506. those things are basically ear drills after two hours. here is the move for your budget:
