Which Sony headphones should I get for mixing my tracks right now? Sorry if this is a totally dumb question since I have zero idea what Im doing, but my budget is around 200 bucks and I need to finish this little EP by next Friday in my bedroom studio. Which model actually works best for mixing without lying to my ears so much...

Like someone mentioned, the 7506s are classics for a reason, but if you want something a bit more modern that fits that 200 buck budget, look at the Sony MDR-MV1 Open Back Monitor Headphones. They are super comfy for long sessions, which you will definitely need since you are trying to wrap up that EP by Friday. Since you are mixing in a bedroom, keep in mind that open backs leak sound, so if your neighbors or roommates are noisy, they might bug you. Still, the stereo imaging on these is pretty legit for the price. Just dont blast your ears out while mixing, yeah? Seriously, take breaks every hour or your ears will lie to you way more than any pair of headphones ever could. Good luck with the EP!

@Reply #1 - good point! Over the years I've tried many sets for bedroom production, and stepping up to something like Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless Noise Canceling Over-Ear Headphones with a wired connection gave me way better transient response than stock buds.

Honestly, grab a pair of Sony MDR-7506 Professional Large Diaphragm Headphone right now. In my experience mixing indie tracks in a noisy bedroom, these are absolute lifesavers.

  • They flat out refuse to color your bass.
  • Under a hundred bucks, leaving cash for snacks.
  • Parts are super easy to replace when things break. I've tried many over the years, but nothing else tells the truth quite this well for the price.
